Shortened steering arms
« on: September 12, 2011, 06:25:46 AM »
Does anyone have these fitted, are they a worthwhile mod to a mostly track oriented car? Harder parking isn't really an Issue.

Now days you can buy them, back a while you had to cut and weld them approx 10 to 15 mm shorter, and had to heat them cherry red and quench in oil to put the strength back in.

I think Arizona z car sell a set in alloy that are 10 mm shorter, which quickens steering, rather than trying to remake the rack and pinion into a "quick rack" and they lower the control arms so that they angle a bit more downwards at the outboard ends. This helps to lessen bump steer effect, which they get when you lower a car.

Yes they are good for track work, and tight turns at slow speed will be a bit harder

Thanks, I already have offset bump steer spacers that give more neg camber too, do Arizona do just the short steering arm alone?

Thanks I've seen those Mossy, $300 seems a bit steep I think arizona's spacer type are half the cost. Motorsport auto has new ones for $275?

I might email Arizona and see if they do just the short arm with no spacer

I bought two genuine sets of Nissan Comp Steering arms a few years ago ex Japan (> $450 each landed) and have had a set fitted to my road Zed for some time, response is much faster and bump steer is reduced as well (used in conjuction with 50mm strutt spacers)
I had a set fitted to my Sc240 race car and the steering was brilliant on the track with sticky rubber with only two turns lock to lock.
The down side is steering load is increased at load speed and can be a b1tch to park especially if you have a small diameter steering wheel.
SW motorsport also sell a set of shortened arms ($450) and they are big, heavy and look very clunky............I think I'd always prefer a factory part over a an OEM copy or after market stuff

I am selling my spare set of Comp arms on feebay................being a factory part they will still pass any road worthy (if fitted to a road going Zed)
