  1. Thanks 72240z and Andbir for your suggestions, both are very helpful, I got the four bleeder nipples out by mixing in equal parts ATF and brake fluid, put it into a squirt bottle, put it in the freezer for a couple of hours to get it very cold, then carefully apply heat with a gas torch ( I got from Bunnings $40) then while the nipple was still very hot, spray liberally with your oil mixture ( I did this twice) then locked on a pair of 6” vice grips and they all came out easy, the oil had gone down onto the threads during the expansion contraction process making the nipple easy to get out, I was mindful of not using too much heat and killing the caliber seals ... cheers cruza

  9. I recently got one from the states, landed here, reco Cardone dizzy for my 280 for $170.00 no core swap required. Can't fault mine, goes great
  10. Gee, Thats so backward, that its actually flaming hilarious, i might recommend our new import offishals for a half hour comedy slot on tv, it would be a winner
  11. Well I feel sorry for the govt "persons" who lie awake at night thinking this crap up, and actually think they are doing a good job at protecting us poor lowly not very smart australian citizens from ourselves, how misguided can it get?
  12. PM sent to PB Thanks for all suggestions, Just to recap, New Dizzy and cap, leads and plugs, timing done, compression on all cyl between 155 and 165 psi, new fuel regulator @36 psi, unmolested AFM fitted, all injector leads tested, all vacuum and fuel lines plus fuel filter replaced, cold start injector disconnected for the moment, new intake manifold gasket fitted (old one failed the wd40 spray test) From cold it turns over once, starts, and idles, and is still a bit rich, AND it still has a slight miss on one cylinder, so now i think its down to a bad injector or ECU.........I'm now bald, with a alcohol dependancy problem, but i still love my Datto.
  13. Old one in the bin, replacement one ready to go on........thanks to zeds4ever
  14. Had an old valiant that used to do just that, drove me totally nuts for two months, turned out to be bottom radiator hose had a spring inside it to stop said hose from collapsing (sucking together). The spring died from old age and the hose got soft and the spring then partially blocked the water movement. If you dont have that problem a TEMPORARY cure for me would be the old torana XU-1 trick of cutting out the center of an old thermostat (sounds like you might have a couple lying around) and fitting that, pick one with the smallest center to cut out as the idea is to slow the water down enough for the cooling process to happen but still run warm enough that its not a pig to drive. This is a quick fix only while you sort thru the other possibilities, but it will work and take the pressure off(no pun intended).
  15. Hi, I am looking for a AFM for a 280ZX with stock settings to replace mine that i am happily going to smash into little pieces and toss it......thanks
  16. Righto thanks, i had checked Linton's link about fuel pressure and I have replaced all of the vacuum hoses, plugs, leads, all fuel lines from the hard pipes forward including the fuel rail on the engine already, I'm waiting on a new dizzy from the states and a new fuel regulator from sydney, The temp gauge is working and temp is steady with new radiator and thermostat fitted, I think the thermotime switch is under the temp sender but i haven't the foggiest what it does or if it can cause rough running. The AFM has a big question mark over it, as under the plastic cover it looks like hell and the electrical pins on the AFM don't look much better, I will post a WTB ad for a replacement.........thanks for the advice, all i can do is wait for parts and try for another AFM. I will post again with THE FIX! I have just finished reading Linton's link to the EFI bible and what a great bit of gear that is, heartily recommended to easily explain the mysteries of EFI and answered my question in plain english about the thermotime switch, so a big thank you to Linton
  17. I am going to check cold engine sensor this morning and have ordered a malpassi regulator, thanks for the feedback, I know bugger all about EFI, but pretty handy with webers etc
  18. Sorry for the edit, i forgot to put in its EFI.......apologies to jalexquijano
  19. Fitted new fuel pump 280zx efi OEM replacement same as what Z car depot sells (Acdelco) But now the car idles and runs really rich, visible smoke etc. I am thinking the previous owner may have played around with the AFM trying to compensate for a dying fuel pump. Tomorrow i will be checking the fuel damper to see if thats been "adjusted". Does anybody know if there are any Benchmark settings for AFM's, Actually this car is driving me to drink, which is ok, 'cause I don't mind a bourbon or two!.......thanks in advance.
  20. Ok, thanks for all the advice, My F/nut spanners will arrive friday, so it's on for sat.
  21. I have a set of crows foot spanners, but i will go have a look at some flare nut spanners as they sound like the goods..........do they make stilsons that small?
  22. ok thanks, off to the tool shop then.
  23. I have to replace all of the flexible brake hoses on my project 1982 280zx, so i was hoping someone will share their best methods on undoing those really tight looking hoses and bleeder nipples, i have never had to do brake work on a car that has sat in a shed for 10 years and those fittings look pretty scary tight especially on the rear calipers........thanks
  24. thank you, that was way cheaper than the others i was looking at on FB
  25. needed urgently because mine has died, I will be away for 4 or 5 days so feel free to text me on 0438527530. Does anyone know where i can buy a new or reco one? thanks
