  1. ok some fair comment probably comes down to my car but words like tutorial kinda make you think you will be ok i know the hats taller i know the hubs different i searched for months on these things! maybe im to old but i missed any mention of this being enuff of a problem in the end "my" hub vs rotor height just dident come up right hey where talking about 2mm tops here.... and yes i get some answers to questions its not always correct in all cars is probably where im coming from lastly i really hope nothing i have writen sounds like an attack on anybody these cars are truely all over the place at times and being a bus i have the hardest to get right of them all
  2. maybe he means a repack with grease and properly tentioning the nut man if there done up wrong you know about it! i put new bearings in the front in the late 90s and they have garage pushed k's on them i might still replace them there only cheap when you compare all the other crap we have to get as for the sump thanks man but i got one coming (since december) from mckinnys if they ever get round to doing the pickup were blaming an email glitch?
  3. NICE! i want a front spoiler like that for mine looks good over all oh and if i ever get my sump you can see what a rb25det looks like in a blue qld 2+2 oh and driver carefully i used to get pulled over weekly in mine when i was on my p's (no p plates back then) half time the police just wanted to look at it the other half......
  4. Ok took a while but i got the "bolt on" hylux conversion dialed now First off there's a loot of people on forums that will flame people for asking questions about this conversion and the old "this and that works" line they get is in hindsight a bit disappointing. Maybe its because these z's are a bit different maybe its just my 260z 2+2 that wont work with s13 rotors? but it wont! SO.... we started again with the pug rotor and blam there on no probs at all so lets see a pic or two? not sure if you can see the problem here but the disk is rubbing on the flange there so we go get pug rotors that have a realistic hat offset and..... Oh and p.s yeah the blues a bit much and yeah that's a hub centric ring machined into the hub worth it BTW cheers here's the new clearance and cos theres no spacer the caliper sits out a bit so will the wheels fit..... YES! now i got to get them to clear the strut and swaybar and......
  5. mmm blue with black wheels me rikey and hey that office worker comment was a bit ruff haha I had efi when I got my elec dizzy but I dident miss settin points 1 bit!
  6. thats at least a 12w def not +8 look good too mine would have too if i the silvia disk had of cleared the caliper mount flange I have to get a bit of feed back from other 260 converters but ide say looking at it that silvia disks arent what we want 240 hubs seem to be fine thow and i know i could make them clear but theres a right way and a really right way wtb pug disks..... eoi s13 "lightened" disks that wont work on a 260 hehe but i can now tell you that xxr 513 16's will clear the calipers just everything else for my "bolt on" brakes and "they fit stop asking!!!" wheels is a prob haha
  7. Good to see ideas on mc ill most likely go the willwood 1" just because there eady to get what I want to know is if you or any other 260 owners had clearence issues between the silvia vented disk and the caliper ears mine seems to rub
  8. got my 12w calipers and the r31 rears back from the shop today they needed a total rekit north of 800 bucks!!!! these things are going on the car no matter what now!! also i had half a win today got the rear calipers out of the "treasure chest" and worked out you dont need to weld calipers mounts for r31 if you only get the center machined to 81 or so but you have to take the axels out meh got that done easy enuff but the bracket will have redundent bolt holes now i have to see what they say about that!! welding them is totally out of the question oh and i measured the gap on the 12w it is around that 23mm like the other guys just to confirm
  9. i wouldn't be surprised if there where different sizes just on a production line or different factory's? and yes there are common 1 1/16 and even 1 1/8 MC around just not really direct fit ill check to see if he thort i had the s13 cruiser calipers or something i really didn't get where he was heading with his there too big comments remember i was going to use the s12w (4 big pistons) not my +8s (2 are smaller) the whole you cant legally weld caliper brackets isn't a big problem just makes the price go up making custom ones like i said before i better get the low down from the guy that will accept or deny the mod plates before i stress to much (toooo late!!!) and lastly i know i could trim the outside of a normal disk just the t2's run the slots way out close to the edge if i trim them they could crack all i know is for an everyones doing it no problems mod I'm having an awefull hard time of it
  10. "edit" the +8 gap on my calipers is 15mm sameish as the stock calipers oops some of the message got lost there and I'm not even sure what i said! basically the guy at the shop reckons ide need a bloody 1 1/16 MC to make it work and even then it would be feel crappy on the pedal it seems telling him that heaps of people run with the 1" and its OK didn't win that argument? unless he got them mixxed up with 13s? also told me you cant weld caliper brackets and get them teched i don't freekn know anymore ill have to have a long chat with an engineer real soon!
  11. Hey again the +8s that i have are for the solids the guy thats doing my disks had a +8 with the bigger gap they DO fit over the silvia disk but man its tight and so is the s12w that i have ill break out the verniers when i can find them but i think theres some factory variance because the "solid" calipers gap i have are WAY narrower by eye than the vented also i now need to get the caliper moved out to clear the 280mm disk because i cant machine the outside down and dont want to waste the disks and the s12w is probabyl too big to make work on the street at this rate i should have put vt fronts on!!!
  12. First off and i should have known better but you cant machine the t2 slot Silvia disks down to datsun outside diameter or they may crack bahhh! So now I'm going to run 280mm front disks and sqweek the calipers out somehow because I'm crazy.... second thing i learned I'm probably able to get my spring perch "moved" to fit the xxr 513 16x7 +15 wheels so i went and ordered some Now they may fit as is (before anyone goes off at me you got to measure MY car) but at least i know i can tinker them in there Third i have people that should know better telling me that even a 1" MC wont work on these calipers i cant win lately!! So I'm on a one battle at a time mode now here's one that i nearly won.... dash before again big cracks and what not last one i promise and if the camera would work after! you might be able to make out the speed huts in there mmmmm but my dash repair sucked its going to get a dash mat for now i need to move on I nearly finished the rest of the wiring I'm really close now
  13. Ive had mine about 17 years it was my first car and it has so many memories attatched to it that i couldent sell it in all the years it's been sitting while i messed with v8s 8 of em!!!.....my boys 12 he thinks its his already he better pray they change the mod plate restrictions on p plate licence rules haha modern cars like my ve ss are 1000% better cars in a lot of ways except the cool factor in my eyes but then we do tend to get biased dont we i cant see me ever selling this thing even after its back on the road.
  14. More distractions arrived today i really need to get some of the jobs finished now so i can start on the cooler bits of this build (more like un build ATM ) so here's some pics of whats come so far.... Kmac for the front not sure about these yet Got these delivered to work what a distraction this box was NICE!!!!! well i reckon so And lastly this lot now i need to get to a machinist pronto Went the t2 slots cos i was feeling silly they cost WAY more than there worth i reckon but what ya gunna do? Also have a full set of new pads there and ill get the calipers off to the shop soon for re-kit and some hoses Oh and if anybodys still reading this the disks only JUST fit in the calipers I'm worried about pad clearance now should i be? cheers
  15. Well i bit the bullet and tryed on the new front calipers they fit with a little bit more trimmed off the backing plate and they clear the xxr 513's so that's all good So now i wait for my Silvia disks to come in and head off to the machine shop... here's a few pics of the calipers and fit up yep bigger! had to try the wheel I've had enough trouble with guard clearance i didn't need caliper probs too! hmmm looks dirty magic! here's a comparo of stock vs first upgrade and then the new ones other parts on the way and the reco and machining work to look forward to then the only thing to do is everything!
  16. I hope my comments about the floor where not taken the wrong way there it was only a poor attempt at humour
  17. These "bolt on" mods can be trying cant they? I've been searching for answers on all these s12?? calipers for yonks and i mean over 10 years on and off it only gets worse haha I already have the +8s done that in about 98 they flew on there with only the backing plate mod i cant remember the hilux exactly but i think i was looking for 86 4x4 Utes that time now I'm up to my armpits in the vented set up with my s12w's 91 4runner v6 and the "disk" options are killing me! i was going to go magna but there 24mm so that's out unless i get the slot enlarged when there apart the machining will be done on the disk what ever i end up with and i have the r31 rear brackets to get done too! I'm going to rip the old fronts (s12+ off tomorrow and see if there the larger ones its been to long to remember Those chaps at Toyota sure like to change there mind on there calipers a lot don't they? hope everyone else is having more luck now. pics of calipers to compare turns out my +8's are the narrow ones so ill use the new ones with silvia disk and to confirm that 513 16x8+0 will clear and this is without caliper bolt spacers that will make more room
  18. sad to see another bus die but then it was already dead? as for the new one man whats going on with that floor!!! former fish tank? never had windows? former owners liked puddles? but seriously i hope this one turns out better for ya oh and what year is it etc that wireing under the seat looks different.
  19. Before i start (and I'm not employed by these guys and if I'm not to plug then let me know and this post it outta here ) anyone after a r30 efi probably L24 i didn't look to close it also had a diff and CV looking axles not sure if there any good for someone on here theres one today 14/01/2012 at Salisbury wrecking Phone: 1300 366 616 Alternate Phone: (07) 3277 5066 Fax: (07) 3277 3152 Email: info@salisburywrecking.com.au Address: 690 Beaudesert Rd, Salisbury Qld 4107 OK there was a trip to the wreckers today and it was awesum! i love those places when they have good stock. So i was waiting for parts (gauges are in the airplane wires are on way and motor in negotiations) and thort it was time to get the brakes sorted so i had a think about what i wanted to do. First off the bling factor wore off the idea of big brand name brakes so i went back to the tryed and true. Vented hilux front disk to be decided and everyones (well Aussie) favorite r31 sedan rear. Salisbury wrecking looked after me i went down and picked the parts took me 2 hours mostly trouble free except i Had to magiver a jack to get the r31 disks off the ground haha and all up cost.......$88 i think that's pretty fair dont you? heres what i got the disks might machine or ill get new ones when i take the calipers too get recoed and gather and machine up the other parts heres the front calipers pretty sure there the right ones r31 Aussie sedan i knew so heres the back oh and sorry guys last pair on site :'( heres the comparo to stock calipers ill try and get a shot of the non vented next to these when i can get around to it top view for those that dont know look at the pad difference!! heres 1 option your looking for at the wreckers for the front 91 fourrunner v6 and heres why i took so long on the skyline! and that's after i found some rusted up jacks haha oh and i nearly forgot the other thing i was up to today around the cricket i had a trial fit of the half recoed and painted tail light not sure i like it true satin black maybe more grey required but heres a look with something else i got recently.... lastly ooorah! for server space now i can stop posting like a newb...or something
  20. that's the spirit!! oh and bondo for breckky! i wait till after lunch to indulge in that delicacy
  21. If it makes you feel better i reckon nearly half the 2+2s on earth have rust in those areas some worse! mines got some in most of those areas again hows yours under the back lip of the roof where the hatch attach brackets and in the corners? I think that whole right side is a disaster in mine but we will prevail!!! just look at that dark grey car a few times a day to remember what the end result can be
  22. OK theres some parts starting to come over now the holidays are basically over Wiring specialty's have finished my engine harness and it should be on its way next week. So its probably just as well Ive mostly finished the wiring in the cabin area Ive got to wait for speedhuts order to come before i finish the dash but the rest is tied in. I was going to visit a half cut or two today to see whats around but they where closed up for the day bahhhh. Also i went up to the local supacheap to see if they want to get me a master cylinder and while i was there i got some more wire supplies and part numbers off some books and totally forgot about the m/c DOH! To cap off today whats the opinion of RBS30 for a number plate.... too clever?... just OK? or that'll do donkey? we know what it means so that's enough i think haha till next time!
  23. why hide it? FLAUNT IT BABY you and your 3 friends.....that's right i went there on a more serious note that orange looks nice hey but many would agree there are only a few colors that really pop on a 2+ i used to see some shockers around.
  24. Ha yeah or even a take on the color it is but with darker (dosent have to be black gunmetal is fine!) accents like the bumpers and flares that always seems popular if you MUST have flares Also I'm bias towards s2000 seats they looked killer in mine when i was mocking them up the other day Anyway make sure you get it well prepped we made that mistake the first time round and now the paint nasty Have fun getting any sleep while you decide the big things haha good luck with it too
  25. OK to just to clear a slight misscom-unication i was actually talking about the switch not the whole wiper assembly. But after reading Six_Shooter's post I thort yep hes right don't be lazy get serious thanks six for the kick along. So yeah 4.5 hours later i got then factory wires pulled from the already removed loom and rigged it up to test off the car and blow me down.... I got it all working but the box is noisy on the first setting and makes a bit on the others could be the battery i had to use but the park shut down and the washer triggered wipers 3 pass all works at first i thort i didn't have intermit wipers but I'm not sure it ever did maybe just a 3 speed? Garvice? I keep hearing that that dash place only does new stuff for rhd conversions? so if i put my shorts on i might get it done? Really its the second most searched thing on a z car doing your own dash i may look into it its not a show car but I'm still trying for "nice" We shall see i guess. To finish off i took a few pics of the fun i had today and before you ask the new wires where still in a test loom not finished ha.
