  5. Thanks guys, i think it might be to do with the set up Peter I purchased a pair of carbs which looked to be half decent but have struggled to get them to idle below 3000rpm. I did contact CNJ a while ago by email and didn't get a response. but those two are local so i will give them a go if all else fails. Cheers David
  6. Hi guys, I have decided to get my round top S.U's professionally looked at, before pulling all my hair out. I was wondering if anyone has dealt with any good companies or would recommend someone who would be able to rebuild(if needed) and tune my HS4's. I just want it to drive well and use the car for weekend driving. I live on the south side and the car isn't registered, so i will need to tow and preferably would like to keep it as close as possible. But willing to travel. Thanks in advance David
  7. I will have a look at those again, i know the springs are still fine and chokes appeared to be working. It would have to be something i am over looking. Thanks guys David
  8. Hi guys, after fixing a lot of small problems with my 260z, I finally got it to idle over the weekend. It was a rough idle but not a bad place to start tuning. I let it idle for 5mins as it hasn't had a run for 6 months. After 5mins on idle there was a little backfire then the revs picked up to around 3-4000 rpm, I kind of freaked out and after blipping the throttle it didn't change anything. I left it to cool down and tried starting again but immediately the idle is quite high all idle screws are all the way out and I'm yet again scratching my head. Any ideas guys? Thanks David
  9. Thanks for the replies. I have removed the plugs a few times and altho i haven't throughly inspected them, i hadn't notice the damage before. There were NGK plugs i cannot recall the product number but i purchased a full set of 6 just to replace them all and see what happens. I was thinking if i missed the damage and have swapped the plugs around then i might only need to look for 1 problem cylinder... How big would the debris need to be to cause the damage? are we talking a 8mm nut? How hard is it to remove the head? Thanks again
  10. Hi guys, I have been slowly getting things back together on my 260z with L28 and swapped a set of flat tops for some round tops and after it was very roughly running(back firing and coughing a lot) for a few minutes i decided to look at the spark plugs and check if they were in good condition. i started checking from the back and when i removed the 3rd plug i noticed the firing end had been bent pretty badly and when found this to be the same on cyl 1 as well. Is there any thing i should be looking for other than some debris in a cylinder? i have a little inspection camera and i am going to look more into it, but i dont know what else would be doing it. Also is it possible if it is an item that has found its way into a cylinder, is that item able to move to another cylinder or would it most likely be trapped? thanks David
  11. thanks guys, those photos are gold... i have been google image searching so many different things to get the right angles. I have all the emissions stuff stripped off mine and they seem to have been recently serviced and are in good clean condition. Hopefully they work well and i wont need to worry about round tops. either way im very happy with the response's and hope i dont need too much more help. cheers david
  12. thanks message sent. i know that they have a bad rep, but i only have these to work with for the moment so i will try to make it work. Does anyone know where the vacuum line from the distributor connects to the carb? cheers david
  13. hi guys just installed a pair of hitachi flat top su's from a 260z onto my l28. i was wondering where a couple of the vacuum hoses go and i have struggled to find any diagrams or any thing to point me in the right direction. Also is there a tuning guide for these carbs? Any help would be appreciated. cheers David
  14. is there a better oil to use like a fork oil? and what weight would you reccomend for as it seems atf doesn't specify its weight. thanks david
  15. I had big plans for the suspension on my 74 260z 2+2 but due to changes at work have had to put these plans off for a while, i have taken my front suspension appart and replace most the bushings and put in a 25mm front sway bar and was going to get new shocks and lowerd springs. How ever i am just going to put everything back together and enjoy it for a while. My question is if there is nothing wrong with the wet legs what do i have to do to reinstall them? is it just the case of refilling the shock tube with 380mL of atf and tightening up the gland nut on the top? or is there more involved? thanks david
  16. ok great thanks for the heads up will look into it. Are there any aus stockists that can compete with the us prices? or is it best to buy online? thanks David
  17. Cool, thanks guys i will try to get some time to see if the rears will fit and then need to start shopping for some new fronts.... are the iluminas worth the extra money or would the blue's be fine. Im not looking for heaps of tunability but if its not too much extra i wouldn't mind... thanks david
  18. Thanks for the tips dat2kman i didn't measure the struts i just bought them trusting they would fit, as the seller told me they would(1st mistake) but maybe he got confused with the models? I tried tapping and even got a long rod and tried poking around and couldn't find any spacers down the bottom... If i was to get lucky and these struts fit into the rears, if there is a gap should i pack the bottom or the top of the tube? cheers david
  19. Yeah im thinking i will have to part with them. Just wondering whilst i was looking at struts online, i notice some of them showed new gland nuts to tighten in the strut. I didn't get these with my struts, by any chance would they be the reason the struts don't fit by 10-15mm? thanks David
  20. Would i be able to use the front shocks in the rear and just buy some new front shocks? How different are the rears? Thanks David
  21. The old shocks are roughly 10-15mm difference. Would i be able to cut the difference from the bottom of the shock. I know it wouldnt be recommended but how much meat would be at the bottom? The best option would be to sell and buy the correct shocks. Any one have any other ideas? Thanks David
  22. Hi, I purchased a pair of front tokico blue shocks for my 260 2+2 and went to install today to find they are slightly longer and the gland nut wont go on the strut tube. They were second hand struts and i was told they would fit my early model 260z. Strut codes are TOHZ3015. Im thinking they are the wrong struts, what are they for and can i fix this? or does it mean new shocks? thanks david
  23. ok cool thanks for the tip david
  24. I am pretty sure they are in need of a service as the piston inside of one of the carbs is very loose, or are they meant to be loose, it pretty much moves when i turn the carb upside down. Am i correct? cheers david
  25. hi guys i recently purchased a pair of flat top carbs and was under the impression they would be similar to the flat tops i have on my 260z at the moment. But when i looked at them i noticed they are a lot larger then my current flat tops. I think i have a pair of 38mm four bolt flat tops with a sererate fuel bowl(i think thats what its called) and the flat tops i have are roughly 46mm with an integrated fuel bowl. I purchased these as they were polished and looked great but am now worried as i have been reading they are pretty much rubbish. What i wanted to know is if they are better then the 38mm ones i have on my l28 at the moment or is it worth getting them serviced as i think they need it? Also is it possible to get parts to service these or is it pretty much a throw a way item. Also i read the 38mm s.u's might be abit small for a 6cyl? is this true? thanks David
