  1. I don't think I have introduced myself yet. I am in the process of restoring my 1976 260Z 2+2, light blue metallic ? I have had it for more than 20 years and it has had a lot of work to keep it running reliably. I am now doing a fairly complete restoration and trying to keep it close to original, ie wheels carpets etc. I try to restore original parts rather than replace partly because it is more fun for me and to save money as well. I will post pics when the car looks presentable. Richard
  2. The head has been overhauled with new hardened valve seats, cost me about $800 but it has had about 3mm machined off its thickness which would acount for the loose chain. The twin tensioners may be the way to go looks a lot better than the standard set up. Besides, removing the existing head is a lot of work and fitting a copper shim could be dodgy. I would like the engine/car to last me out so I am willing to spend a bit on it. I hope this message complies with the rules. Richard
  3. Thought of that, the chain guide is over as far as it will go.
  4. My 260z has been fitted with a replacement E88 head. The total head thickness is now 105mm I am told by the people who last overhauled it that they don't go below 107mm. I have run the car without pinging problems so the compression is probably not too high. What worries me though is that the chain tensioner shoe is out of its bore a long way ,15mm. I would think this would not allow much for chain stretch, the chain is relatively new. Do I have to scrap the head or what are the options.
  5. Will these fit 260z seats they are stated as for 240z. http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/SIC03E/40-2719

    scuff plates

I ended up regluing the plastic covering back with super glue, they look allright I removed the glue which got on the vinyl with acetone , removed the dirt as well. Lastly I gave them a wipe over with linseed oil and painted the rusty one inside with hammerite.

    scuff plates

I am in the process of restoring the interior of my '76 260z 2+2. I've got the scuff plates out ie the things that cover the carpet on the inside of the sills. They are made of black vinyl covered sheet steel ( marviplate?). The vinyl has come unstuck at the edges and is curling away. I am thinking of 3 options 1. remove the rust and reglue the vinyl back 2. pull the old vinyl off and recover with new or 3. paint black with something which is tough and wear resistant. I would appreciate any ideas.
  9. I turned my own from a piece of black walnut . I still had the original enamelled change pattern disk to stick in place. Any wood turner should be able to make one for not much money.
