  1. Well the old girl is back together ready to go off for a paint. With heaps of help from Jeff I have the car ready for paint. It has been a long hard road to get this far and there were some day when I thought it would never happen. I had trouble getting the doors right, and the fit is not perfect. This is my fault for not fitting them when I replaced the dog legs. But this is all part of doing my first resto, and the mistakes I have made tell the story of my journey so far.
  2. thanks for your help Doug. All is sorted now.
  3. I am ready to fit my rings to my piston and I need help. I have set of new Hastings Rings to fit and as they have two different compression rings one is lighter in colour the other is darker and has the dot to face up. The box says top and bottom but I can't find any other instruction and as they came out of the packet (my son helping me). Which one is which ?. If anyone knows' I would love to know. Thanks Vaughn
  4. Here is more of the same. Now I have to put it all together and off to the paint booth.
  5. Well I had some more progress with some colour around the doors and windows so we can put the car together ready for it's final paint. As you can see I have the Heat Lamps going to keep it all warm, I'm sure I can hear my electricity meter spinning around.
  6. It's hard waiting for the top coat but I know the paint will only be as good as the prep work. It was hard work making sure all the lines of the car were as good as they could be. It's hard to see what the colour will look like until it is on but the next up date should give some idea.
  7. Thanks George & Mick. Well the blocking down is complete. I took a week off work and with the weekends at both ends, my good mate and I were able to finish blocking down of all the panels and seal them up. The lines all look good on the car but the proof will be when she get that final coat of jam. I'm so glad this part is over I'm sick of wearing a dusk mask and sweeping up all the time with that fine dust covering everything.
  8. I have just watched the you tube. It was a great way to show off the colour and lines of the car, she is one sweet looking race car. I love that 918 orange.
  9. well she is finally on her wheels after 2 &1/2 years. I can now move the car around on her wheels. I'm one step closer to getting it in the booth for a coat paint. I think I will need to roll the guards to make sure the tyres clear. I'm just happy to see the car on the ground.
  10. Thanks PB if people keep looking I'm happy to post. I know what you mean I spent 3 years looking through and following build threads and getting tips from Lurch & Ledge and many other members to help my build. These shots shoe the front guard and sugar scoop fit up. I don't know about anyone else but this was much harder to get right than I thought it would be.
  11. I have taken some rough measurements and photos (iphone) the disc clearance is about 40mm and the caliper clearance is around 25MM. my mate has this brake set up with 16X8" watts and it clears OK. I hope this helps, if you need anymore info just PM me
  12. I have 16" wheels and there is not a real lot of room the caliper is fairly close and I know different rims can make a difference to the clearance. I can take some measurements tomorrow and I will post some pictures on Monday.
  13. I was just going to go with a hydraulic park brake but I have changed my mind and now going with a mechanical set up from AZC so as you can probably see I will have to change the mount, but when I got my kit the mechanical set up wasn't ready now nearly 2 years later I can get it so I will back track and fit them up they should arrive in the next couple of weeks. I must say AZC have be excellent to deal with and have done all they can to assist Jeff and I with our brake packages. Thanks for following my build Peter I really thought no one would be interested in the way I was going about things, with so many great cars having build threads and some very talented builders.
  14. I got all of the AZC rear disc set fitted without any problems. I just hope it stops as good as it looks.
  15. Well I'm well into the body work now and it's very hard to work all day, and day and feel like your not getting anywhere. But I'm slowly starting to see the results . I know the hard work now will pay off when the paint goes on.
  16. I hand filed the "D" shaped hole very carefully to make a circle and just the right size. It was like being a apprentice again. It all fitted up well I'm not sure if you can get them the right size but mine seem OK, only time will tell.
  17. Here is a couple of pictures with my 16X7 rims fitted, they clear the calipers OK. I got my brakes from AZC when the Aussie dollar was at it's all time high, so they have been sitting around awhile, and I have been itching to get them in the car. I did wait awhile to get them over here a a friend was getting a car shipped over so I was able to get a couple sets of brakes wheels and a rubber kit over here on the cheap and Jeff (43) and I split the cost for our package with a few others bringing cars in. This saved a heap of money we just had to wait 6-7 months which was OK with us.
  18. Sorry for the the late reply Peter I have been away. I have ordered a set of AZC Steering Knuckles which I hope will help reduce the bump steer and change the steering ratio. If I'm not happy with the result I will look into re-drilling the cross member. Thanks for the link showing the location and how to drill I think if I had known it was that easy I might of tried that first. Thank Mossy & 77260Z I am very happy with the car so far, it's no big dollar build, but a good solid shed build. I have fitted Koni Yellow with King springs, finger crossed it rides OK.
  19. I managed to fit all my new bushes and Koni strut inserts and fit it all up to the car without scratching my pride and Joy. I fitted up a disc and caliper just to see how it all looks. It should stop OK.
  20. I have paint stripped and sand blasted all of my suspension parts now it's time to paint and reassemble.
  21. I suppose it would help to post the picture of the Hatch. I have been working on suspension parts when i get sick of blocking down.
  22. we got some under coat on the hatch quick smart and put some colour down on the inside. It is always good to see some colour.
  23. I have now turned my attention the rear hatch. I chemically stripped and was happy to find only a couple of areas that had light surface corrosion.
  24. Thanks mossy. I can still remeber quite well seeing your car nearly ready for final paint when I was with Jeff picking up the 240 shell. We got the primer on and put on all the heat lamps that I had to bake it off. Even with the low shine primer I can see the areas that will need some work but it is good to have the whole car locked away now and I can put the welder away for awhile. Time to bog and sand.
  25. The body is prepped and cleaned ready for paint witch needs to go on straight away.
