  3. My advise ... from experience with this grub ... 1) Be very vigilant. 2) do NOT EVER tell ANYBODY where your car is. 3) take details of the said GRUB... and record them. 4) If you need to show somebody your car, meet them outside the local Police station, and take a friend with your, OR tell a mate to meet you there. I could sniff this idiiot right from the start; 1) I get an SMS saying "I am from out of town and in Sydney for ONE DAY ONLY to look at 3X 240Z's" - Umm yeah right! 2) second SMS; "can I come b4 lunch tomorrow to see your car" - ummm NO YOU CANNOT, even if you are genuine ... I work in the day 3) "I have cash and am ready to buy today" - and I'm the POPE! 4) he was very rude, very ignorant, and was basically somebody who I had no interest in helping from the start. The second you pick up one these jerks, clam up and tell them nothing. I told him my car was at Dee Why at my my mechanic's shed (which in hindsight was perhaps too much to tell). He responded by telling me he had not heard of Dee Why (ignorant grub too!) and I then said, "well that's a problem then" I then immediately called James and told him the story, so he was prepared if the Grub called. Of course, nothing happened. Be warned and be vigillant.
  4. Wanted to share this.. I think it's important. Last weekend I changed the ad on the Brown Hornet to 'Under Offer'. Within minutes I received a SMS from a person (not identified) saying; 'I am in Sydney today for one day only and I want to buy a car'. I thought, righto!! I wrote; "if you want to buy my 240Z, call me please". I then received a call from a complete grub of a man called 'James' saying things to the effect of 'are you selling?, where is the car?. He told me he was in Sydney to 'see three 240Z's for sale' at which time my BS meter went to HIGH! He said in another SMS, "I can come and see your car tomorrow morning, please tell me the address".... again the BS meter started going off again! When he called (and he was a rude pr!ck), I told him the car was sold, subject to an inspection and then he argued with me that it was not sold. I told him that if he wanted to buy the car, it was price as advertised, which he wanted to argue about. I asked him if he was a collector, racer, or what, and he said; "I don't have to tell you why I am buying". He then asked me again where the car was, and I responded by saying; "the car is at my mechanic's workshop - if you want to see it, you will need to call him" He then suggested the car was not mine, but my mechanic's. I corrected him and then called James Flett to tell him that a very dodgy person might be in contact, whom he did not hear from. James Flett told me to send him over, he has 20 or so mechanic mates in the complex and they'd be keen to welcome my buyer! Be aware guys and girls.... this was a brazen attempt. A thief called me and wanted to know where my Z was. I am certain he was a thief, and had I not as been as wise, the Hornet might be elsewhere today.
  5. I spent most of Sat and most of Sunday installing the brand new carpets ... they aer amazing.. 100% german loop pile. Installed the diamond vinyl, but before doing so I wrapped the console in 1/2" felt underlay, which I also used on the floors. With the vinyl, carpet, mats, and fully refurbished console in place, I was in shock as to not only how good the car looks, but HOW QUIET IT IS !!!!!!!!! James tuned it fully, changed the oil, tensioned the timing chain and adjusted the OER's. The outcome is a very very comfortable driver, with much better fuel economy. He changed the jets to smaller ones, and I am sure that the economy has now doubled on what it was. I drove it all weekend and the needle barely moved! I am SO happy with the Hornet now .. Hopefully the final inspection this Wednesday goes well. I personally don't know how it won't.
  6. I am starting to feel anxious!
  7. Thanks Gents, The car has been with James this week getting everything 100% sorted. He told me my rear outer uni was buggered, hence the rattly noises I've been hearing from day one. Electrical gremlins now sorted, tuned, and in perfect health. FYI, on values, the Gent that has agreed to buy the car (subject to a yet to be completed mechanical inspection) is 70 years old. He has told me he is buying the car for his wife, having last sold their beloved 240 in 1971. He assures me the car will be little used and be babied. Car is still in my possession, and fingers crossed will be leaving me in a week or so. Thanks for your support and interest guys, i've loved it - even though i've not met nor spoken to 99% of you over the years. The kids will get their pool now, and i'll be committing myself to countless hours and frustration looking for the next toy (Wife permitting, of course!). Cheers Adam
  8. CAR NOW UNDER-OFFER.
  9. Gav, If you can make it to my place (over the bridge) this weekend, you are welcome to have a spin mate. Bring ear plugs though! Adam
  10. Hi Folks, Long time, no update so I thought i'd give you one. So far i've had several inspections of the Brown Hornet, but it's not sold. Selling my 2.7 Carrera took a year, so by that yardstick i'm doing fine. Even got the old "Hi I work on a ship and can't make it to shore" trick as well, which made for some interesting reading and email exchange. Anyway, if you wondered how popular 240Z's are these days know this; as of tonight, according to the Car-sales website, my ad has generated a whopping; 69,314 'result views', with 10,209 'detail views', with 35 people having 'saved' that vehicle. I must say I was somewhat shocked by these numbers, so wanted to share it with you. The car is up for rego again this month, and like the last two sports cars I owned, its done 1,260KLMS only since it went on the road a year ago. Trust all is well with you all, and I hope you all have a Happy 2015. Cheers Adam

  12. No Mossy and others .. Not a joke, and no other cars. Just a monstrous house to renovate and the car is not being used.
  13. Following the very recent sale of another mint 240Z, I am considering finding a new home for the Brown Hornet. All details available on build thread. Driven 800 miles since complete 5yrs + rebuild. I'm not posting price, albeit as per the header I am inviting Expressions Of Interest for genuine buyers only. Please PM me with genuine interest only. Regards, Adam.
  14. Sorry Folks, posted this on the F/S section and wondered why no responses. I need an indicator assembly for the Brown Hornet as the current one is not working, like the one before it. If anyone has, or can lead me to a new blinker switch, i'd be ETERNALLY grateful. Cheers Adam.
  15. Hi James, Nice Z ... almost as nice as the incredible Brown Hornet! Wanna race?? The bloke that built my motor told me it'd beat anything on the road, so i'd like to test it against your Z!! Cheers Adam
  16. Ok, most of you either know or have heard of James Flett's mint 1973 240Z. Well look what the latest google search found me on a bored afternoon in the office! http://allclassiccars.com.au/datsun-240z/ Did not know this was the case, so I called James and he confirmed it to be true. Having known James and had him build my engine, tranny, and basically everything mechanical on the car, I can vouch for the fact that he's a fanatic for the smallest of details, and is a period correct nutter (a bit like someone else on here!), including matching numbers everything, Nissan motorsport headers, Mikuni's, race dizzy, etc etc etc. I saw this car recently and he's got all the trick OEM race bits on it. I even had a pedal last time I was there and must say the photos do it no justice at all. OK OK... its not as nice at the Brown Hornet, but then I had to say that didn't I! If you are or know of a serious buyer, tell him about this car as from my own experience at this price in today's $$$ you should rightly only be able to buy 1/2 a 240Z this good. Jims' number at M.I.A Engines in DeeWhy is 9982 5288.
  17. Hi Folks, I posted some time ago here that I needed a new 240Z indicator stalk mechanism as the original unit was well, on the blink! Seems the newer one I bought from a chap in sydney has also gone the way of the Dodo... SO ... the incredible Brown Hornet really needs a new 240z indicator unit. Does anybody have one, or can they show me where I cam find one? The car is so sad, just sitting there with no working blinkers!! Cheers all. Adam.
  18. Hi George, Loving your thread mate, well done with sticking to that project, but I'd suggest you'll be very light on body costs. Perhaps if you stick a zero on the end of your estimate you might be closer, which means like Pete says, 'you're about half right'. Not to discourage you here, but these costs just keep piling up. Keeping original wheels / exhaust / suspension will save a lot, and you should be able to find most of the interior on here, or similar sites. If I can be of assistance, give me a shout mate. Adam
  19. You need an update. I took the Car the Terry Hills yesterday to Cavallino Cars and Coffee .. if you live in Sydney you MUST come to this. Its an Italian restaurant where once a month every nutter this side of timbucktoo takes their hot cars. I've now been twice and seen; AM DB5, five McLarens, Miura's, F40's, the actual car from Back to the Future, Lambo everything, Porsche everything, Ferrari everything, Hot alfas, fast volvo's, GT40's, YOU NAME IT... Lotus everything etc etc etc, RX7's on serious ROIDS ... etc etc. starts 8am once a month on Synday.... yesterday was the last one .. so the next one is in 4 weeks! So the little Brown Hornet was and IS the only 240Z to be there ... Yesterday I was totally mobbed by a stack of guys ,,, all with the same comments; "I remember these", "these are awesome", "Does this have the L Motor", "the colour is unbelievable" etc etc etc. I have ordered my carpets that are being made bvespoke, albeit we have trial fitted Billy's (WA) actual original set in the car, from which the new set are being cut. We are using Black German Loop Pile - 100% wool. Really very exciting. Should be about two weeks off. I did something foolish yesterday, but under strict controlled conditions (so its not really foolish then is it?!) I wanted to see how fast the little Hornet would accelerate in a real life situation - have not really tested this before, and the Odo is showing 800 miles now. Pulling out of a street from a stopped position, onto a HWY type situation that is 90kph, I needed to move very fast as I'd left precious little space (there were two lanes, one for me to chicken out if needed - the other with a fast moving van, about 40 metres from my stationary position). Guess which lane I pulled into? OMG ... the little Hornet huffed and puffed and FREAKING TOOK OFF .... I did NOT wheel spin it, but left my foot down to the warrantied level (thanks James!) of 8250 in 1 2 and 3 ... That van just got smaller and smaller and smaller and I could NOT wipe the grin from my face for the rest of the day. The Hornet is freaky fast, and I should point out that it has an OEM 3.9 open diff and the relatively uninspiring 71B with 3.3 first gear. I will be changing to a factory shorter gear set (2.9 first) in due course, but have not had time to get the car to have this done. The thing with the motor is just how fast it spins up and the power it generates higher in the RPM range. I was gobsmacked. Should I mention too what this sounded like? Just wanted to share that ...
  20. you are SO practical Mike, but the problem with that excellent idea is that my 240Z one is down at James shed (also not working) and the 260Z is dying on the car. I do intend to try to putt apart and clean etc. Out of interest, what is the best method to clean these terminals and protect them? Somehow I think I remember reading that veseline is good for terminal lubrication, but if someone else has any clues, please let me know. Cheers Adam
  21. Thanks Lads, Its a Datsun Compe steering wheel, so stock yes (I guess). I did try to give it a little extra muscle, have wiggled and jiggled it and all sorts but it just has stopped working. I will have a look at that thread and see if I can't get it working again. Thanks again, Adam.
  22. Hi Folks. Have gone one particular electrical gremlin in the Brown Hornet, that is the Blinker switch only works very very sporadically on the left side and not at all on the right side. This is a 260Z switch, and the one before this (the original) was the correct 240Z switch and that was also useless. Has anyone actually rebuilt one of these? I am thinking its only a worn terminal or similar inside the little switch but I am not sure so wondered if anyone has done this little fix? Similarly, if there are any working 240Z blinker switches looking for homes, the Brown Hornet is shouting out for one! Cheers Adam
  23. The Hornet's built a nest and is hibernating, BUT I did take it to the shop last weekend and was mobbed on arrival by some guys that wanted to salivate all over it. When I got home, my 5yr old daughter also admitted that 'she liked my yellow car much more than that red one' (being the 250GTO I was just watching for the 8th time inside).. She does have a way with words! Serious question now though, with all the 'fun' I was having in the car, I seem to have very nearly broken the rear right outer Uni-joint, just inside the rear right wheel. It's not packed up totally, but is making a horrid speak when I drive and the odd clunk too. Suspect its only got moments left. Can anybody recommend either an new Uni joint product, or a place to take this stub axle (is that what its called) to have it properly repaired with a new uni / or CV? Thoughts?
  24. Have we lost sight of the fact here Lads that Nick Mason is one of the founders of the best band in the world!!! PINK FLOYD ROCKS!!!! forever. yes, I have every record.... Lastly, I have a CD of Nick's car collection, which literally just a soundtrack of his cars. He has the 250GTO, BRM V16, 250F amongst others. He is a complete and utter car fanatic.
