  1. My headlights decided to stop working both high & low beam. Everything else works parkers, indicators, taillights etc. I checked the fuses, they were ok. I replaced them anyway but still nothing I removed the Driver's side Headlight housing & the bulb was fine, I haven't checked the passenger side yet as it's freezing outside & no space in the garage but I don't think it's the bulbs if both headlights are out. I've been reading up on the issues & sometimes it's the switch or sometimes it's the grounding wire. I don't have a multimeter at home but should I be checking the grounding wires at the headlights, at the fusebox or at the switch/steering column? I'll need to get this sorted before next weekend as I'll be going for engineer certificate then blueslip inspection for rego. Any help/suggestions is much appreciated guys
  2. Cheers mate, will do Yeah gotta be careful with some cars in the regions where there is snow or if the owners live right on the coast. Most import brokers have contacts who can inspect the car in person before it goes up for auction. As far as radiation goes I don't know, but the cars have to pass quarantine & customs before release here.
  3. I guess I'll start a build thread when I have something noteworthy to report haha. For now just getting it running smoothly. New blood New filter, you can see the size difference New sparkies Purring like a kitten https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6k-gQDdISI Surprise surprise, found some notable rust on the floorpanels Driver's side has a little surface rust but seems ok otherwise. Passenger side has big crack in the paint, looks fine from the undercarriage, does this warrant some preventative action? Also, is it worth getting those fancy blue ignition leads I see people get?
  4. hehe yeah I can see the humour in the Japanese owner wanting to look different by adding door mirrors & then me bringing it here only to have them put back on I definitely like the bullet style mirrors, would this style be suitable? Forget the price of them I am just asking styling wise would they be correct? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DATSUN-1600-BLUEBIRD-510-SSS-JDM-NEW-OLD-STOCK-FENDER-MIRRORS-/390868404391?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5b019288a7&_uhb=1
  5. Oh Wow This is pretty much the look I'm going for: white car black rims & front spoiler. Definitely sourcing fender mirrors, even if they are reproductions Fantastic car Gareth!
  6. Hi Gav, Yep got the Auction sheet, inspection report & de-registration certificate It's an L20 with EFI emission gear. It still pulls surprisingly well but I plan to build up an L28 down the track. Starting up a shopping list haha
  7. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,14510.0.html I posted a few more pics in the link above anyone interested in the import process there's plenty of info & brokers around. The main ones that I have seen on other forums with a decent reputation are Ironchef & Importmonster etc. I used DIYimports http://www.diyimport.com.au/ Craig has been importing cars for a long time & he's a genuinely good guy to deal with from experience, always happy to answer my questions & explain the process in detail Cheers guys
  8. Thanks George, can't wait to start cruising about in the ol girl & coming out to meets hehe! Cheers Hi Gareth, Yeah hehe I know what you mean about the rust free definition. I've inspected a few local examples to know by now I'll have a better look tomorrow, literally got it off the back of the delivery truck 3 hours ago but so far no bubbles, there's a small paint chip on the front driver side guard that has surface rust. Looked in the hatch, wheel wells, guards, engine bay, peeked under the car as best I could without jacking it up on stands. There's some newer looking paint on the passenger side floor behind the seat which could have been some rust prevention but otherwise looking good so far! Customs Inspection, Compliance, shipping & delivery all up cost me $4k so the car itself ended up being $20k at auction. Everything was organised by Craig from DIY imports & the fees for shipping, customs & compliance all came in one invoice from Autohub who are a shipping agent so the process was really simple & straight forward. It was literally a few emails back and forth between the import broker about my budget & what I was after, we found my car going up for auction in Japan so I set a maximum budget I would spend for the bid & I got the winning bid under my budget I set. From start to finish it was only 2 months, the length of time varies based on what kind of car you want etc. It was my first time importing a car & it couldn't have been more simple & drama free
  9. oh yeah... Forgot to say all the electrics are working. I'll have to get an FM booster for the stereo but all good. The seals are good. Door seals are a bit cracked but otherwise ok. I've already ordered a set of 16" Watanabe R types in black Once I get my tax refund I'll be ordering a set of coilovers, swaybars & strut braces. Eventually I'd like to do a big brake conversion with rear discs LSD in the rear Long run plan I want to do a high power L28 build
  10. Hi Guys. I've been lurking on here for awhile but proud to say as of tonight I am the owner of an S30z! Had it imported from Japan by Diyimports, which I highly recommend. Craig made the process very simple & hassle free. It's a 1976 S30z Fairlady from Japan. 5 speed transmission. It's in outstanding condition for a 38 year old car! I checked all the usual places (having learned by the helpful people on here) & could only find a paint chip on the front guard near the driver side window about 1/4 size of a 5c coin that has surface rust, the rest of the body is rust free, can't find any bubbles so far. The engine is running a little bit rough in the low revs & idle but otherwise very strong. I'll put some fresh fuel in it tomorrow & do an oil change. I'll probably change the spark plugs while I'm at it. I'm looking forward to being more active on these forums getting advice. I used to own R32/R34 skylines & more recently V36 skylines. I still have my 350z which I currently have up for sale. Cheers Guys!
  11. Seeing as how you asked So guys I ended up importing... but from Japan. RHD for the win! It's not mint but damn good condition for a 38 year old car. Basically a rust free straight body. Took it for a spin around the block this evening & the engine/gearbox is running well. Idle & low revs is a bit rough but nothing some fresh petrol, new spark plugs & new oil can't fix I imported it through Craig of Diyimports https://www.facebook.com/diyimport (Highly, Highly recommended) It's the same Craig from J-spec imports & Ironlady/Ironblock imports. Basically paid the broker fee & he started hunting around for me Helped me secure my car from auction & under my budget too! Worked out the shipping & compliance & delivery. All up the process took two months from starting the car hunt to delivering to my driveway. Simple! Cost me $24k all up landed & complied, delivered to me. Vs. The shitload of 2+2's for sale on carsales/ebay/gumtree no offence to 2+2 owners, just not my cup of tea the rusted out examples the nice ones out of my price range The 1/2 dozen very very nice ones that come up once in a blue moon for a decent price that get snapped up straight away before I can finish reading the ad. Am I a happy Chappy? You betcha!
  12. Hi Ben, any update on the timeframe for the matte black to come in? Cheers
  13. Thanks for the info! I've been trawling hybridz for the last 2 weeks but so much conflicting info & unanswered threads etc. I was looking into the T3 lower control arms front & rear as well as their tension control rods but there were some posts on hybrid saying they had fitment issues with rear brake conversions etc. so I was thinking camber tops might be the go instead. My Zed will only be a street car so I don't need to go too crazy, I used to run trackdays when I owned skylines. Just need something to adjust the suspension after I lower it. Planning on 16" watanabes then lower it a bit as it looks like a 4x4 with the stock suspension hahaha
  14. Hi Everyone. Anybody have first hand experience with Ground control camber plates? http://www.silverminemotors.com/datsun/datsun-260z/suspension/camber-plates-for-s30-z-car Particularly after first hand experience on how they hold up in the long run & the adjustability of the plates. I'd pair these up with a set of T3 coilovers, I emailed the Techno guys & they said their full coilover conversion kit would bolt right into the factory struts no issue so I should be able to pair these with the camber plates for the front? https://technotoytuning.com/nissan/260z/front-coilover-conversion-datsun-240z-260z-and-280z Any alternatives you can recommend?
  15. you have pm
  16. Hi Ben, do you have in stock 16x8.5-6 in black by any chance? I'd be after 16X8+0 front & 16x8.5-6 for rear
  17. hehe I DID say 'from memory' after all
  18. Hi Alan, do you know the history of the car? If so could you please care to elaborate, it helps me learn what kinds of things to look out for. Thanks mate
  19. Just from memory, I think Jim Carrey drives a silver 240z in bruce almighty
  20. Hey Guys, Can't thank you enough for the hints & tips. Really gives me an insight into what to look out for. I'm not too concerned about the bid for the red one at this stage, all in all it seems a decent car, but I have to be realistic with what I am prepared to pay & not get carried away, I have an idea now of what it's worth after james aka cracker was kind enough to go have a look for me & get more photos if I'm not successful with the red one I'll just go the import route. If I am successful in getting the red one at a fair price I might even fly down to SA & drive it back to NSW
  21. Just wanted to say a MASSIVE thanks to James for checking out the car & being kind enough to take photos and even a vid. Much appreciated mate
  22. Good to know in future. I spoke with the seller, unfortunately not really what I'm after at this stage. Still bidding on the red one on ebay in the meantime, just trying to suss out with one of my local workshops if the rear bar will cause me any issues for bluslip in NSW
  23. Doesn't surprise me, different name but same old RTA
  24. ^Yeah, if it would cause issue at the pits in NSW I could always renew the SA rego for 6 months while I source a new rear bar etc. on another note I spotted this one on gumtree, another SA car but LHD (not a problem for me) http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/victor-harbor/cars-vans-utes/1973-datsun-240z-coupe/1042006564 not really a fan of tan interior though, how much would a set of black factory seats & black door cards cost on average when they pop up as spares?
  25. Thanks guys, I've left a message for the seller asking where the car is located. He lives in Underdale, is that nearby for anybody? I've been told also that the rear bumper being shaved would cause a problem for blueslip, does this mean that the rear chrome bumper is also the rear reo?
