From the album: Johnnys Zed Restoration - Components
You can see in these example of parts how the wear shows on the pieces. -

This is what the parts look like after they have been plated. A coating of greese over the plastic parts protects them from the acid dipping. This is the best way I found to do up bolts en-masse as the acid dipping cleans the bolts. result == new bits -

these are the under body components after they have been sand blasted and primed and prior to them all going into the powder coating booth. It worked out cheaped just to make up a pallet of zed parts that needed powder coating and just have them all done. -

OK, not strictly part of a restoration, rear disc brakes but I think a brake upgrade is a smart idea -
From the album: Johnnys Zed Restoration - Engine Bay
This is a front view of the completed engine bay after rub down to the finest of 320. Even so I got a gloss of the gun and it was enough to cover the schtien slaged rails. I'll finish the bay off to a finer grade - but for now it allowed me to complete installation of the %^!%$@%^!# fuel and brake lines. -

Engine bay just after I took the masking off. It looks pretty good and the bay is acrylic - so you can work it to a shine. The engine bay is not as good as I want it but, time keeps on slippin slippin into the future - so Ill have a closer look at making it better later. -

If you had a look at the interior restoration you may have noticed a from above shot of this before it was primed and painted. The schiten slag is a good product from protecting metal and this, like the battery bay is an area that is exposed to corrosive fluids. So it makes sense to cover it in a material that will give the vehicle some protection in that area AND is easy to respray without having to be to fussy about the finish. -

This is my off the gun painting on a 320 base. Not bad eh? I won't paint 2K without proper safety gear as it gives off cyanide as it catalyses. Acrylic does have some advantages though, you can work it, paint it at home, blend it etc. -

I had to turn the contrast and brightness up on this picture so you could see it properly. This is the battery bay, it was a hard area to restore. I sand blasted it and put schtien slag down to protect the metal from acid drips. Unfortunately corrosion is persistant - but so am I. I ended up stripping it back again, rust convertor on the surface rust, primed and painted again. While I was at it - I did the whole engine bay again - the running man painted it before. -

You can see the early style diff mounts here, the tidied up diff strap and handbrake thingo. -

Ok things are coming together and it looks pretty good under there but under time constraints mistakes can be made - can you see what it is (it's sorted out now but I thought it would be good for a laugh) -

Quality of this shot is not so good, but it's a rebuilt R180 lsd. -

Plating, powder-coating and paint. This view of the front suspension cross-member shows how the car is coming up, nice and durable - if a bit dusty. -

They have been plated with a yellow zinc and look nice and original. These two bolts represent the apogee of this project for me - everything is assembly from now on. -

The body nuts were welded in with extra strongness so they were in the car real strong now, cause they stop the stuff at the back from falling out. The rear moustache bar mounts on these bolts and hold the diff in, so they should be able to manage a lot of torque talking to the wheels. -
From the album: Johnnys Zed Restoration - Assembly - fuel/brake lines
The early 240Z had the rear brake balance block in the back of the car so that the back wheels would not lock up before the front wheels. -

The last thing to be installed after convincing the fuel and brake lines they actually belong in the car. Fuel lines have a mind of their own and if they aren't in a car they forget they belong in a car. It's made *especially* entertaining when the platers don't_tell_you that they have bent the lines to fit them in their poxy %#%$!^% electroplating tank (instead of dipping them twice) or even funnier *where* they bent the lines HAHAHAHAHAHA - it's so funny - NOT -

Oh mother - tell yor chillen, not to do the things I dun, spend a day in sincere misery, and your hands are f**kd. If you fuel and brake lines aren't *perfect* you are in for a world of pain. It took me a whole DAY to get the installation of the fuel lines to work properly -
