  5. Hi guys, Regretfully, after 6 years of ownership I am putting up for sale my 1971 240z. Vehicle is garaged in Adelaide and was last registered in SA in 2009, shouldn't have a problem reregistering in SA. Specs: 1971 Datsun 240z L24 (Not matching number) with twin su's . Engine was running when I removed it but could do with a good tune. 5 speed gearbox, slight trouble getting into second. Original jelly bean mags. Vehicle complete but fully stripped. Work undertaken by myself: Zed has been completely stripped and all parts have been labelled and bagged. Rust removed and repaired in the following areas with new sections: New floor pans Replaced roof skin (deleted sunroof) New hatch slam panel New entire LHS rear quarter panel Various other small sections Topside and underside of floor pans, underside of roof, and front wheel arches have been coated with POR-15. Estimate 80% of rust has been repaired. Rust exists in each hanging panel, RHS rear arch and dogleg, and radiator support but all very repairable. Sale includes a bunch of miscellaneous spares in boxes including hatch panel and rear bumper. Zed has lots of potential. Selling as I don't have the time to spend on the vehicle, bought it when I had no kids and lots of time, now have kids and no time. Parts sold separately or as a package: Tokico Illumina adjustable shocks from US unused and still in box ($400) Polyurethane Bushing Kit unused and still in box ($150) Konig Imagine Opal 17x7 rims, no spaces required for fitment to 240z, with lug nuts unused and still in box ($1000) L24et engine injected and turboed with old Haltech E6A computer incl. floppy disk (yep that old). Engine is in unknown condition, my plan was to remove injected turbo system off this engine and onto existing engine ($1000) Asking $4,400 ono for the zed or $6,400 for the lot. Package sale preferred and buyer of vehicle will have first choice of parts. Inspection recommended. Interstate buyers welcome providing inspection is undertaken prior to sale. Cash or bank cheque accepted, no swaps or trades please. Please PM for further details and my mobile number. Thanks.
  6. Yeah i know its a long shot, my current roof is both rusty and has a sunroof hole in the middle of it so trying to find one mainly without the sunroof hole. Might look abroad as suggested.
  7. Hi guys, Im after a 240z roof, possibly a 260z 2 seater roof if it is the same as 240's, in good condition to pick up in South Australia. Price dependent on condition. Please PM with contact details. Thanks.
  8. Thanks guys, I appreciate all your opinions. It gives me a lot to think about.
  9. Decision hasnt been made yet, just after some helpful info. I have neither an RB engine nor an L28 and would be happy to go for the L28 and rebuilt gearbox if i could get the same amount of power out of it for the money it would cost to purchase and install an rb25de and gearbox from a halfcut.
  10. It will need an inspection but no engineering required so virtually no cost impact. Whilst the fitting kit is required, a rebuild of both engine and gearbox, maybe even carbis would be required to the L28 to get the same power a standard RB25de would produce out of the box. At least i think this is the case. My gearbox is knackered so this is part of my equation also. I understand that the rb would require more work and hassle to get in and legal, but im not too worried about that, more so interested in the kind of power the two make for the cost.
  11. Hi guys, i am looking into replacing my L24 in my 240z, its not original so no need to keep it. What are your opinions, in terms of the power gained vs the money spent, on a RB25de transplant compared to an L28? Turbo is out of the question due to engineering. From my research it seems that the RB25de halfcut is the way to go, similar power to a mildy rebuilt and worked L28 with tripples or good su's, modern gearbox, no need to rebuild engine/gearbox (i would need to do this with an L28) or source good carbis, and reliable. So is it purely the extra effort involved in fitting an RB and keeping with the zed heritage that makes people go for an L28 rather than an RB? I appreciate anyones opinion, i like both engines but am not sure what path to take. Thanks.
  12. Thought you guys might be interested in this: http://datsun1200.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?viewmode=flat&type=&topic_id=31166&forum=2 This fella looks like he is building Torsen diffs to fit R180 and R200 at a relatively good cost. Has anyone had any experience with the diffs made by 'Topgear'?
  13. Bens conversion is part of the inspiration, he used mounts from Rocco's Performance but they dont make them anymore. Havent spoken to the Rod shop yet but am unsure whether they can do anything for customers interstate, i cant bring the car down to them to design something. The Betamotorsport cross member looks ideal and is reasonably priced, just not sure if it can be used on RHD cars.
  14. Hi guys, i am considering fitting a 1JZ into my 240z. Its my understanding that Betamotorsport are the only company that manufacture a cross member for mounting the engine. Are there any other companies? Also, has anyone used this crossmember in a right hand drive application? I think the crossmember is designed for left hand drive cars and would like to confirm that it will be ok to use on my 240z. Thanks for your help.
  15. That makes two of us, deffinitely keen to see the write up for R33 brakes. From what i understand over here in SA, you have to have an ADR approved braking system, i was told that this means basically getting brakes from another car because they are fully approved and tested. The wilwoods dont come out on a production car, i think, so arent fully tested or ADR approved. This is important because i will be going through Regency to get it all legal. I havent spoken to an engineer about the Wilwoods, just Transport Services over here.
  16. Not too sure if there is much of a difference between the gearboxes, i had always assumed that they were the same. Do you know if you can fit a rb20 box to the rb30 without mods? Did the custom sump from castlemaine set you back much? I am very interested in watching your conversion.
  17. Hi Glen, looking good, do you need to modify the RB30 sump to get the engine to fit into the zed engine bay? what gearbox are you using? (5 speed from VL or skyline)
  18. I have searched thoughtout this website, hybridz etc about offsets, backspacing, PCD and the like to find out whether Rota 17x8.5 rims with +4 offset will fit on all four corners of my 240z with no flares and coilovers(coming soon). Does anyone have any experience with these wheels or can offer any advice on whether they will fit without rubbing. I will be rolling guards, would prefer not to pump them if it isnt necessary and at worst may be able to camber the wheels with the coilover setup. Will these wheels fit without flares or rubbing? Advice much appreciated.
