  1. Yeah it is quite expensive, however when I actually asked for a price via email, it was a fair bit lower. Also remember those are NZ dollars. I guess you gotta weight it all up against the price of building the Z box up again, and even then youre left with 30 year old worn out gears !
  2. Hey All, I have just been through the process of deciding whats best for me to do with my worn out 5 Speed - Rebuild, Conversion, or complete Engine & Geabox swap (for an RB25DET & Box). I have decided on a complete engine and gearbox conversion, however I very nearly took this option. Its a Supra 5 Speed box, which you then bolt up a custom bellhousing to which mates up with the Datsun L Series Engines. You can buy the complete kit, or just the bellhousing if you want to source the Box yourself. Heres the Website... http://www.conversioncomp.co.nz/products.php?which=15&return=9 And some pics.....
  3. Peter.......Brilliant suggestion. I will wait however untill I have tested them, then after that Ill put something quite comprehensive together and post it on several Z Car sites. As you say, HybridZ will most probably be the best source for generating orders for a bulk buy, and obviously, the more I can get made at once, the cheaper it will be for everyone. Yes...the dollar....quite depressing isnt it......A rye grin still comes to my face knowing I bought all my gear at 96 cents.....Not rubbing it in or anything ! Looking at some wheels to borrow this weekend...Im not sure they will be suitable though, but fingers crossed. Getting Closer !!!! Woza
  4. Hi Peter....you just got in before me...I second what you say - I keep getting notifications that there has been a post, only to find its nothing to do with the subject ! haha Grumpy # 2
  5. Yeah tell me about it.....what looks like a simple Item certainly takes lot of time & effort to get right Keep up the good work dude ! haha Woza
  6. Thanks CB, thats 2 confirmed definates...... No probs sending them abroad mate.....it will be a pleasure.
  7. Im a Mechanic By Trade. Im currently working as a mechanical Designer, and I also have a diploma in Menchanical Engineering, but no degree - why do yo ask ?
  8. Yes Mate, The AZC Camber plates are fitted to my car. I dont envisage too many problems getting them passed. Yes, I know what you are talking about regarding the possible rotation of the suspension arm main shafts. Up utill last weekend I had these fitted to my car, and untill I fitted them, I was worried about the same thing. trust me, once they are tightened in place, they are impossible to move. Only a large impact of some sort would move them, but they wont move with everyday normal use.
  9. The Kit will comprise of the Following : - Caliper Brackets X2 - Handbrake Cable - Handbrake Cable Mounting Brackets & Bolts I will be Painting the brackets Satin Black as shown in the pics, but can provide them unpainted if required (for you to do your own colour Scheme)
  10. Yep I have considered this, and have actually put all the standard supension arms etc back on the car for now. Once engineered & Past I will probably fit the bilet gear up occasionally for shows or similar, but for the most part will probably run the standard arms etc. Its only a 2 hour job to change it all out so its not too much of an issue. At this point I havent run a stress analysis on the bracket, but will get around to it at some stage. Cheers Warren
  11. Thanks Peter...I love the way you think ! The Brackets as MS (Mild Steel), for 2 main reasons - firstly its cheap to buy & cut, but the main reason is to maximise the strength of the 'fingers' that locate the Mechanical Spot Caliper in place. I am pretty sure that if I have made them from Alluminium Alloy, those fingers would fatigue & break in no time. The unfortunate downfall of using MS is that they are heavy ! Woza !
  12. Mate its going to be a while....firstly, I need to do a road test.....thats sounds easy I know....but I dont have any wheels ! lol.....so I need to borrow some. They need to be 16inch min..They also have to have an offset that will clear the overhang that the 6 pot calipers have ! I have lined up someones wheels for next weekend, but I wont know if they are suitable untill I see them. After a sucessful road test, I will then do a bulk order to help get costs down. If I do a bulk order (10 sets), it looks like the price for the kit will be around $500. This prototype set has cost me $630 to get made up , and thats excluding all the fuel used going back & forth....at least 3 tanks of juice ! lol I wonder how many people will be keen on a kit now !! Cheers mate, Warren
  13. Hey CB, Yes mate...good progress....All done, complete, bolted & hooked up to the car. I am just trying to organise to borrow a set of wheels so I can go for my road test !!! All seems good on the stands though - I applied the handbrake and tried to turn the wheel with a long crowbar - it holds great, and releases nicely upon release of the handbrake lever also, so all looking good. heres a couple of pics showing the bracket & cable in position, without the discs or calipers in the way. Let me know what you think guys !
  14. Hey Charlie Boy... Yep...made good progress today actually.....Finally found some suitable Clevis Yokes that match the Spot Caliper Lever perfectly. Also had a prototype set of handbrake cable brackets made up, which today I had bent into shape & Welded. By the end of the weeked all the hardware will be solid-mounted on my car, with all that remains to do is to go and get the handbrake cable finished off. Ill do that Friday next week. After that, I need to find someone that I can borrow some wheels from, so that I can go for a drive, and test the handbrakes holding strength on some slopes etc. So yeah...progress is happening! slowly but surely ! Watch this space ! Warren
  15. FuFu....no thats cool. Kinda exciting actually...just concerned about the fact that i was a little premature in posting the info. It does give me a good indication on interest though. To date that Hybriz Z member who was interested hasnt replied to yourt post Peter - I will do that. I have also found some unseful contacts in my travels today...will follow them up too. Thanks Woza
  16. Hey All I have been amazed about the interest in the new brackets thus far. They've even found their way onto Hybridz ! I have concerns however that members are going out and buying their Wilwood rear Brake kits AND the Spot calipers prematurely, based on the soon-to-be availability of the new brackets. I would just like to remind people that they are yet to be tested on the road, and need to prove themselves before I will make any available. This is simply a logical step that must be performed. Having said all that, I do believe that they will work a treat, and I am looking forward to the time when I can say "OK Guys....orders please ! Ive hit another minor hurdle trying to locate the right clevis yokes and pins to suit the Spot Calipers...The lever arms are Hardened spring steel which cant easily be drilled to suit commonly available yokes....so it means more running around and googling ! It might end up in me getting them laser cut & bent along with the handbrake support bracket. Anyway guys WATCH THIS SPACE ! Warren (Woza01)
  17. Awesome CB...Youll be stoked with em !...I certainly am ! any idea how long before you get them ?
  18. Toecutter.... send member 'Mayhem' an email asking him to measure the discs he bought off me - I bought them brand new from MSA in America - including freight it was still cheaper than buying them here !. Once you know the disk size, you will then know if its S1 or S2 and the Calipers are also from the same Series....I used to have this info recorded somewhere but cant for the life of me find it. I am pretty sure that its the S2 stuff, but cant be sure enough to tell you with any degree of certainty. You can also just buy the whole kit at once from MSA ! check out their website. Nzeder....youre looking at a rear disc conversion......have you looked at the pics and thread of mine about the Arizona Z Car conversion with my Added Mechanical Spot caliper for a handbrake ?
  19. Hi All... just to add my two cents worth. I did the conversion using the Genuine Nissan Maxima Brackets (Nissan Part # 44155-04S10). 280ZX calipers and Discs go right on, but I cant quite remember if they are teh early or late calipers....but have a look at the attached pics of my old setup before I sold them to 'Mayhem' and you will be able to identify them, because the other type are totally different. Hope this helps
  20. Well done dude...always good when you can fix stuff yourself. like I said in my first post to you after you started the thread....you had an internal Bypass in the Master Cylinder. Iv'e seen it a thousand times (I used to work in the Brake Industy ) Keep up the good work dude !
  21. Peter.... Thanks for making me/us aware that there are different part numbers out there. I think just to be sure your caklipers with diff part numbers will definately fit my brackets, I think it may be a good idea to get a few of the key dimensions from you and compare with mine. Ill send you an email tomorrow with a diagram of what I need. Wozadoodledandy !
  22. Hey Charlie Boy.... Just checked out the Spot Caliper boxes for you....the part numbers you have are correct, except my boxes dont have the '950' out front - they simply read... 120-2280 120-2281 1.62" Piston Diameter .81" Rotor Width. Firstly....please be under no illusions that its going to be at least 6 to 8 weeks (maybe longer) before my initial set are fitted and working. The main reason for this is that my time is extremely limited at the moment due to work commitments (does anyone know about the mining boom here in WA ?). Secondly, I wont be doing a bulk run untill I have actually tested them on my car under normal driving conditions. Im sure you can understand that they need to be right before they hit the streets. My last problem, is that I will need to borrow a set of wheels from someone so I can actually take the car for a test run ! haha. Anyway, feel free to keep the pressure on me to get it done quicker....I'll do my best to speed the process up ! Woza.
  23. Well if there is no loss of fluid from the resevoir, and no leakage at either the master cylinder, or at the wheels, then your problem is an internal bypass. Essentially this means that one of the seals that should be pushing the fluid down the brake lines when you hit the pedal, isnt sealing properly and the fluid is passing around it. Usually this means that the bore of the M/C has corroded and/or the seal has decided that life isnt so great any more ! lol. Anyway, looks like youll probably need a new master, or you may be able to get it repaired, but not many places do that these days ! Let me know how you go !
  24. No, i dont believe they were ever reliased in Australia. I have one, but im keeping it, but I could put you in touch with someone in the USA who would be able to supply one. Let me know if youre interested
