Chartoo's new 2 seater project - An interesting start.
chartoo replied to chartoo's topic in Members Project(s) Journal
All got my wheels of Benzed today. Soo happy with them. They look a tad bronzey grey up closed but a couple steps back and they look chrome. Really nice. 17x9 -13 and 17x9.5 -19 Now i just have to brave enough to cut out the guards Tried another experiment also. Saw this photo over at hybridz and the guy said it was a excel bumper. http://dallas.craigslist.org/sdf/cto/994614788.html Bought a cheap one today close fit but i think it is a failed experiment. -

Well after i stripped all the rotten foam off the other side it ended up being perfect! under there. not one bit of rust. Well now that drama is out of the way i started doing all the little body mods i wanted. Feel a bit like a plastic surgeon. Butt needs some work. Clean up the eye brows. Remove this. Shave this. Fun times. So i started with the butt. Cut out all the dimples, holes and mounting bracket sections to make a really smooth shaved arse. Took a long time eh butt i think it will be worth it in the end. Starting Done bar the grinding Also filled in the side bumper bar spaces, rear badges and antenna holes. After all that i started on her eyebrows or the drip rails. Cut off the drip rails a 6 inch section at a time and put a weld along the whole length. Actually easier than the bum. I think it makes thar car look more modern and makes it look a tad wider by making the roof look a tad shinner. but im told it can make it a little unpractical in winter. oh well it will look great. After stripping the car Rust wise it was pretty good. Floor were perfect under all that sound deading. Chassis rails need a 10 inch section done on both sides at the rear but every car does. Bit behind the dash on the drivers side. Both sections under the front guards and a bit under the radiator. But i lot less work than the other zed i was mucking around on. -
sweet! thanks everyone thats all i need to do it

Really? Mine spoiler is open on the inside so there is no direct area to clue onto...so there is no bottem to glue to the hatch

Well... after a lot of sanding and using a LOT of paint stripper the end result is a pretty good after, it just looked bad. Little of rust around the filler, like every zed, bit on the rear bumper indend and on the end of the sill. So all around really good considering. Really dont have the heart to look at the other side. -
Hi all Chartoo here. I bought myself a new project, a 260z 2 seater. Looked pretty good. Minimum rust, rear spoiler, no engine which is good casue ive got one read to drop in and subtle z rear flares and smoothed in fronts. Took a punt on the flares casue there was a lot of crap bog work done ontop of them. Looked ok from the inside of the cargo area no rust but it didnt pay off. There was a rust stain coming from near where the fuel filler and the flares meet plus extra bog. So i started digging and this is what i found The d*&khead who installed the flares decided to fill them with bog to make them fit and then put a layer of expanding foam between the flare and the quarter. What does foam do...hold water. That is all the water that dripped put of the flare when i took it off. i will have to get the paint stripper out to really see the damage but what a start to the project eh?

I was thinking the other day and mucking around with a few ideas to do with my inspection flaps. I always wanted some vented ones that i saw at showcase bodyparts on the web but the guy didnt return my emails. So i had an old buggered windscreen vent and cut them out and put them on top of my inspection flaps. Welded in i think they might look good and they would let air out of the engine bay also. I want to remove the smaller edge vents of this panel also to flow better with the lines of the bonnet. What do you think?

can you supply the correct wheel nuts as well?
-
yeah i think rota wheels and 18racing are linked somehow but i asked them both for a quote for the same product and got different quotes. But Kim Bong through rota is good. I would buy those wheels but the dollar just died so i will wait a month or so
-
My experience with 18racing has also been really slow and they charge a lot for postage. I tried kim at rotawheeels in the US and he was very accommdating. My finally quote for wheels was 4 17x8.5 RBR chrome and postage to WA =$950 Bargin

Tru fit carpets "Hi Andrew We make and sell the 260Z carpets as they came originally from the factory. That is, there are 2 front mats and 2 pieces that require glueing to the sides of the front transmission tunnel. Cost for these 4 pieces is $75in loop-pile and $80 in the plush-plie. A full front and rear kit including the left and right side-sill pieces is $160 in loop-pile and $175 in plush-pile. The rear cargo mat is $80 and $85 respectively.Freight to Como with Australia-Post is $22."

Hello peoples. Is it possible to get a 2+2 carpet kit in Australia. Ive bought and cut carpet before but its just not the same as the moulded stuff. I Really only want the front section as i will be messing with the rear of the car interior. Ideas?
-
Hello ive seen this front spoiler on ebay that incorporates a front bumper. Ive asked the guy where he got it but it came on the car. Anyone have an idea? Its nice. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=220283036556&Category=36605

yeah i might take me a while, months sorry, to get it all sorted but i will post back when its done

Ive started something similar to this so i can give you some ideas or some short cuts. The best way and the cheapest way i thought was to 1. Take the lights apart, clean and get some colour coded plastic and fit it to the inside of the lenses and drill lots of holes in it for the leds 2. Make sure you buy wide angle leds, i got mine of ebay america and they came with free resisters cheap too 3. I then arildited them into place 4. Wire them all up and then coat with liquid electrical tape i think its called 5. The stop tail lights cause a small problem leds only have one level of intensity i bought these of ebay to fix that http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&viewitem=&item=160272686698 Video link to the first test (beware i drop the f-bomb casue i was excited ) Any questions nizm0zed just ask

i think i read they weight 20.5 lbs which is 9.5kg. heavy for racing but fine for the street i think...i dont know

Will these size rims fit on my 76 260z 2+2. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=136846 They fit on this 75 280z so they should fit on my 76 260z 2+2 right? I got this quote form Kim at Rota wheels in America for a set of 4x 17x8.5 +04 114.3 RBR's in Royal Hyper black. He quoted $ 650 + $ 400 shipping to Western Australia = $1050. Andrew
-
So i can asume from the hybridz link that these will have no problem on my 260z 2+2 as a 280z is a 260z here yeah?
-
I might have just made your day http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=136846&highlight=Rota+RB-R+17x8.5

In the future will these be avaliable in chrome perhaps? I think there would be a market for them...

cheers i will give him a call
