    Bonnet

From the album: Work in progress

No more speed holes.... Not quite sure if its the right length yet, haven't had time to trim the overhanging bits off to fit it up.

From the album: Work in progress

Decided to have a bit of a play with filler, this is my first go at fillering anything. Came up well, but I need to come just a little further up the panel - underneath the filler is a deep gouge I could only fill with weld, then skim over the top...

    RH Floor.

From the album: Work in progress

No more wet feet! It had been patched by a PO - a plate tacked at 4 corners on top of the rusty section..... Fantastic job...

    RH Sill.

From the album: Work in progress

Patch welded in and ground back, had to put a bit more weld in to fill couple spots i missed, now just waiting on a skin of filler.

  8. as far as rebuild prices go, thats a widely variable question, and it depends what extent you want to go to. Generally when you strip and rebuild a box, you have no idea what its going to require until its in pieces. It may just need synchros, or it could be that you also have excessively worn mainshafts, bearings and clusters, and you'll only find out when its apart. If you opt for Nissan genuine bearings etc, it may cost quite a lot. Some places will do a changeover box (Ie. one thats already rebuilt in exchange for your box) for a set price..... Personally, I think a cheaper option may well be to buy a secondhand gearbox. You can collect RB25 boxes for around $550, but of course you then need a bellhousing to suit, and may need to do a little cutting of the trans tunnel - not sure about how the splines line up. But anyway, 3 options really (Well, 4): - Get your current box rebuilt. - Go for a changeover box, might be hard to find for a 260/280. - Go secondhand (Probably cheapest, of course risk is if you can't drive it in car first in a private sale... most wreckers should supply some kind of warranty.) - Or, practise those double clutches! I can give some hints if you want, its not hard at all, and its pretty satisfying to get it right, even with stuffed synchros the gears will just fall in - in fact, its easier to learn on a stuffed box, cause you know when you've done it right!
  9. I've heard Redline is pretty good... I'd imagine you should be able to find it at Repco or Bursons, or if you had to at Autobarn. In reality though any high quality synthetic gearbox oil will probably do the job, unless your box is really stuffed.... Castrol Syntrans for example is pretty good. Or double clutch more
  10. my 260 has side indicators....
  11. correct. my zed is the same setup, also a 76 2 seater.
  12. Maybe Satin Black? Can get it in a spray can, its half way between matt black and gloss black - has a picture of a zed on the front too
  13. Definitely like the black and white one as it is...
  14. Right, so I need to be finished with my car by february... thats an outside chance....
  15. The tacho does NOT need to be swapped, my 260 runs the inductive pickup tacho (oddly, because I thought only 240s had them), and has a full EFI L28 swap in it, tacho works fine. I left two existing wires connected (was that all of them? don't remember), one was a black wire with a yellow tracer, and it connects to the positive of the coil. This supplies ignition power, and I believe is part of the tacho feed. The other was a plain black on the negative of the coil. I then ran two completely new wires for the module, as described in the website below. This website (http://www.geocities.com/zgarage2001/engine.html) has a little drawing of how to hookup that module to your coil, but he is incorrect (obviously) about the inductive pickup tacho not working.

    Head

The Z garage mentions a few obscure australian heads (http://www.geocities.com/zgarage2001/) but nothing about an 05L? Where'd you get it from anyways? (I'm resisting the urge to ask if you read the right number ) *EDIT* Well, you're not alone, according to google search.... Little bit of discussion, Gav240 was in that one, might know bit more about it... http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3072&page=1&pp=15 From what I can discover, its a head from an L20ET (R30 Skyline, C30 Laurel, Jap spec S130) and possibly very rare - hang on to it? This "NISSAN SKYLINE JDM 05L L20ET HEAD RARE" popped up on one of my google trawls, but I couldn't find it on the site...
  17. Roger that on stripping paint - still a few little bits need to be done on mine, but i got so bored with it i went on to fixing up other panels....
  18. wow - matt, your avatar looks scarily like what i see when i open the garage door
  19. HAHAHAHA..... Hail Mikuni, full of grace.....
  20. Yeah, obviously you'd check any information on an internet site, preferably with hard text, since I've seen incorrect info shared among many sites, but definitely a good guideline, and the guy seems to have spent a lot of time researching what he's doing. But most of all I just like that twin turbo setup
  21. Well, I'd say if you already have your car stripped, as your signature says, its probably not that helpful.... Haven't read it myself, but I would imagine it would point out the most common rust spots/general problems, and maybe have a few hints for substitute parts.
  22. If you're getting power to the motor, but the motor isn't working, i'd say just replace it - there are still enough S30's around you should be able to source one somewhere.... can probably even use one out of something else, if you had to.
  23. http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/turbo/index.html Check THAT out - especially the pictures of the twinturbo setups - there is a non sequential twin setup I really like there....
  24. Haha - I'm going to be in a large convoy when I go to the exhaust place - got like 5 mates who want to listen to it screaming along on extractors only...
  25. How nice is the sound of a zed running straight out extractors? I should see about uploading the mp3 of mine running through its new 6 into 1's.....
