les96 Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 With the Holidays upon us I would like to share a personal experience with my friends about drinking and driving. As you may know some of us have been known to have brushes with the authorities from time to time on the way home after a "social session" out with friends. Well over the week-end I was out for an evening and had several beers, not unusual…. Feeling a little jolly I still had the sense to know that I may be slightly (way) over the limit. That's when I did something that I've never done before - I took a cab home. Sure enough on the way home there was a RBT police road block but since I was in a cab they waved me past. I arrived home safely without incident. This was a real surprise as I had never driven a cab before, I don't know where I got it and now that it's in my garage I don't know what to do with it. Also, the meter is still running and the bill is starting to look a bit excessive, my question is, can I claim this as a business expense ? Quote
dat2kman Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 No, because it happened on a gazztted public holiday. Re the new accquisition, get up to SuperCrap Auto, and grab some tins of flat black spray paint, and apply an even coat all over. Next time you then "accquire" a new item, one that you did not pisess before, no- one will see you with your new flat black skin disguise in place. Win all round, i'd say. Shame about not claiming business expenses, maybe try a mid-week drinks session next time. Quote
handsandwhich Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 I was about to say, great another internet forum lecture about 'doing the right thing'. But that was actually a pretty good joke, at least I think it was a joke? Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted January 1, 2013 Moderators Posted January 1, 2013 Just look out for a "jolly" matt-black cabbie... Quote
Six_Shooter Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 I'm not laughing. I had a family member that had a serious problem with drinking, he lost his licence a few times over it and wrote off a few cars as well. Thankfully that was the worst of it, for him. I have friends who have lost friends and family members to drunk drivers, so while you may find this humorous, it's not, it's in very poor taste. Quote

I am confident there aren't too many members on this forum that would condone drink driving. We are all aware of the horrific consequences of alcohol or drug affected driving. However I think your response is a bit of an over reaction. I personally found it quite funny, despite assisting with the aftermath of a horror car accident just before Christmas. Lighten up! Regards Peter I guess when one of those family members was a 6 year old girl whom I had interacted with only a couple days prior to her being senselessly killed, "jokes" like this are no longer funny. I had also driven past the accident scene on the night she was killed on the way to a Hallowe'en party, not realizing that the emergency lights were there for someone I knew. I witnessed how alcohol killed one of my family members slowly over his life, and how it controlled his life. Yeah, alcohol and drunk driving jokes are real funny.... [/sarcasm] Quote

That would pretty much write off every joke in existence... Still, I suppose in a world where political correctness has gone stark raving mad, it makes perfect sense. Down with humour. Quote
RB30X Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 I have heard it before and it is a funny joke. I agree with your comment above. Quote
