Whoray Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 Carrying on from the Intro to Forum. As the car not registered, decided to put car on stands and run in gear, as previous owner said had vibration on dyno, possibly spacers on rear. It certainly vibrated, and diff seemed to rattle, so out came diff. Pulled centre out and found the oil was very strange, verified it had a Nismo LSD. Then read on internet that clutch LSD can sometimes rattle at low speeds. So back together after good clean and fresh oil. Removed spacers and a slow road test around private local block all seems to be ok. Quote

Whoray Posted November 20, 2012 Author Posted November 20, 2012 Car finally registered with club plates after 18 months in garage and dont know how long sitting idle before I bought it. Vibration seems to be lessening the more I drive it. Could it be flat spots on tyres? (Had them balanced and alignment done.) Pinging badly until Simon backed off timing further than I had. Couldn't find mark to use timing light. Strange, cars seem to rev harder when he drives. I didn't like to rev while pinging but now it pulls hard. Sounds better than our 2 seater. Will be at BBQ on the 1st and plan to enter both at Calder next day. Quote
luvemfast Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 Is Calder the day after the BBQ at Gordo's? Just put it in the calender. I have to say that this car drives AWESOME! Can't beleive it was for sale so long and at the price it was considering all the goodies it has on it. 3.1L Stroker (with inlet off, you can see & run fingers down and feel that its ported well) Custom headers with 3" exhaust LSD Nismo suspension 17" mag wheels New dash with 240kph speedo Front air dam Interior in great condition Bodywork not too bad, bit of a tidy up. Apparently the Wolf 2D ECU was stolen Now running triple 44PHH Mikuni carbs i was really suprised at how well it went and the noise......... OH THE NOISE Looking forwards to seeing it all shiny Quote
Whoray Posted March 25, 2013 Author Posted March 25, 2013 Getting car ready for Nationals has been a pain. Brakes at Calder Dec 2012 seemed to fade a little, so ordered Braided Hoses from ebay. Slotted and dimple drilled Rotors & TRW pads from Brake place. Hoses arrived from Canada only to find 4 hoses for front, none for rear, been chasing up now for a month, ready to ask for refund and buy elsewhere. Ordered rear hoses from Better Brakes ( who make on site) lunchtime 18th Mar, replacement arrived 2 hours later from Canada, rang & cancelled order. Removed hub to replace studs with slightly longer as not enough purchase on nuts. Also to fit new Rotors. Noticed 1 bearing was pitted, naturally replaced all front bearings. Fitted new rotors & TRW pads. While removing LCA & Caster Rod for Simon to extend for camber & caster adjustment, noticed the lower ball joint rubber non-existent. Luckily we had some new ones in Simon’s garage. His thread also shows the steering arm adjuster conversion. Car was far too high so have to lower with some springs from Iain. Driver’s seat padding was collapsed so new seat from Gumtree. Harness from ebay. So now have Better brakes, Lowered suspension, Adjustable Camber & Caster, Drivers Seat, Harness. Hopefully a Wheel alignment & Dyno Tune before Easter. Sun evening 24th Rough Camber & wheel alignment done and ready for road test prior to alignment at Trackside Tyres & Dyno with Lou & Richard. Guess what? New noise coming from drive line. Back into garage over night as getting late & Simon needs to go to work Mon. Monday morning, jack up & put on stands again. Start and put in gear, climb under to locate noise. Nothing from rear so move to middle under gearbox, yep gearbox making strange rattle. Remove tailshaft & run again, definitely gearbox. So time to pack up and share our 2 seater with Simon. Quote
Riceburner Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Was looking foward to seeing this beast. Will you be able to make it if you can find a box? Quote
luvemfast Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 It's a real bugger, as dads been pretty busy getting it up to scratch. After driving it at Calder. The biggest points of concern were- - brakes - power - suspension Lol It was seriously boat like in its handling. Brakes felt like your old billy cart, remember? Pull up the lever so the block of wood pushes on the rear wheel. And it wouldn't go any faster than 145kph, we think due to timing and lack of fuel pressure. So the brake components were upgraded, but essentially stock. Suspension was lowered and stiffened. Camber and caster added. New high volume fuel pump with reg. So a Dyno tune was going to sort the power. But it's not to be. It'll see the track yet Quote
Gordo Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Bit of a bummer Ron. All that time and effort, not to mention the excitement of driving it at the Island. It wasnt ment to be. At least you are sharing with Simon . Hope you guys have a good weekend. Cheers. Quote
