Riceburner Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Hey guys, while test driving I've noticed my speedo needle is bouncing a lot when I'm below 40/50kph.... Is this gauge related or time for a new speedo cable? Thanks, Gareth. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted November 4, 2012 Moderators Posted November 4, 2012 I think its just in need of a good cable clean on the inside of the outer then a good lube. Quote
Riceburner Posted November 4, 2012 Author Posted November 4, 2012 Thanks, What do you recommend for lubricating? Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted November 4, 2012 Moderators Posted November 4, 2012 Just a very thin film of grease...not packed in but some between the fingers then pull the cable through. Quote
Six_Shooter Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Why is this in the electrical section? Does this happen only when cold, or even after driving for a while? Lubing the cable might be all that's needed, sometimes, the speedo head needs to be serviced, that could include applying a little bit of libricant to the rotating parts in the speedo, or as much as replacing with a known good speedo. If I remember correctly, you can remove the speedo cable from the trans, and slide the inner cable out, to lube it. To reinstall, just slide it back in, and when you get near the end, you may need to give it a slight twist to get the tang to line up with the speedo. Quote
d3c0y Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Mine does it at around 100kph and i always thought it was because the cable was moving around the engine bay when it got bumpy. Quote
Riceburner Posted November 5, 2012 Author Posted November 5, 2012 I thought electrical would be the appropriate section? Its consistent weather it's cold or hot, I'll try the lube with it still in the car, if all else fails then ill fit a spare new cable I have. Cheers guys Quote
