TBOWGN Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Hey guys, im looking at buying the Race Tech guages from eBay for my 2+2 and just wanted to know whether the cup size is 95mm or 115mm? Id have a look myself but im away for work at the moment. The link for gauges are below: http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_nkw=race+tech+speedo&_sacat=0&_odkw=race+tech+blue&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313 Anyone using these in their own zed's? Thanks, Lars Quote
TBOWGN Posted August 25, 2012 Author Posted August 25, 2012 Oh yeah, its the speedo im asking about... Quote
TBOWGN Posted August 26, 2012 Author Posted August 26, 2012 115mm is about 4 1/2 inches. Will that be big enough to suit the existing speed hole? Quote
dat240z Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 the tacho and speedo are good for 5" and fit perfect. I covered my other guages in whate facce to match the autometers, but from memory suit a 2 1/2" guage almost perfect..... check speedut etc.... Quote
TBOWGN Posted August 26, 2012 Author Posted August 26, 2012 So 4 1/2 inches won't cut the mustard? Or is it possible to still make it fit? Quote
dat240z Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 4 1/2 should "fit" as the binnacles where the instruments decrease in size the further back the guage goes. Hybrid z.com under interior and instruments has everything. I didnt even fit a bracket for my 5". Place about halfway down in speedo hole, black silicon around the sides (some lighting from instruments could be seen in gaps at night) and its tight and snug... Quote
dat240z Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 sorry...if you meant that 4 1/2 to fit the 3 guage cluster, i doubt it, fair bit too big... the tacho/speedo would accomodate it. what guages etc are you replacing? and for what? ie lose amp/fuel for boost etc? the 3 guage cluster is pretty good in that it relays so much info, most guages that read two items in one (ie fuel+amp) wont suit and or look way out of place. If you want to modernise/tidy up, go the white faces and change bulb colour, paint needles..... Quote
handsandwhich Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 A 4 inch gauge will fit nicely inside the original cup the speedo and tach comes mounted in. The bigger you go in size, the more forward you need to bring the gauge in the dash hole to make it fit. A 2 5/8 gauge fits nicely in the cluster ones. Quote
TBOWGN Posted August 26, 2012 Author Posted August 26, 2012 Thanks for the info lads. Im after: Speedo, Tacho, Boost, Oil Pressure and Water. Im still deciding due to the loss of fuel, indicators, brake etc... It's okay, i did mean what you first meant. So basically, sizes wont matter too much, overall it seems fairly flexible due to the ability to shift them back and forth.... Plus a bit of blue tach to hold them in place Quote
dat240z Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 Speedo / Tacho are no probs. Oil pressure and temp are already a stock guage and can suit diff eng combos. Just put the boost where one of the air vents on the corner of the dash. But definatley dont use blue tac, its dodgey Quote

We'll see. Thanks for you help. Quote
nizm0zed Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 do you need to pass rego/engineering? It could be very smart to think about that before you commit too far. You cant place anything on the A Pillar, its a rego fail (and easy cop defect) likewise, you need to keep indicator, high beam and brake warning lights in the car, that doesnt specify that they have to be in the instruments though My plan was to use some very thin green rectangle shape LED's and mould them into the speedo binnacle surround on the bottom area, same could work for the high beam warning light. I was going to modify the stock fuel gauge and mount it within the face of the centre console, most likely placing the brake warning light inside it, seeing as it'd end up as a half gauge it'd have space to spare. (I have moved my stereo though) I saw one bloke on Hybridz that blanked off his cigarette plug and placed all his warning lights there, looked pretty neat, but i dont think it'd be too visible from the drivers position.
