46mm Flat tops

hi guys i recently purchased a pair of flat top carbs and was under the impression they would be similar to the flat tops i have on my 260z at the moment. But when i looked at them i noticed they are a lot larger then my current flat tops. I think i have a pair of 38mm four bolt flat tops with a sererate fuel bowl(i think thats what its called) and the flat tops i have are roughly 46mm with an integrated fuel bowl. I purchased these as they were polished and looked great but am now worried as i have been reading they are pretty much rubbish.

 

What i wanted to know is if they are better then the 38mm ones i have on my l28 at the moment or is it worth getting them serviced as i think they need it? Also is it possible to get parts to service these or is it pretty much a throw a way item. Also i read the 38mm s.u's might be abit small for a 6cyl? is this true?

umm not really sure but i must admitt they are very pretty

i had a set of those there off a 260z, when they work they are actuly realy good carbs and the induction sound is awsome but when they start to fail they are a night mare, just put them on and see how you go its not that hard to change back

I am pretty sure they are in need of a service as the piston inside of one of the carbs is very loose, or are they meant to be loose, it pretty much moves when i turn the carb upside down. Am i correct?

yeh thats normal it just means there is no oil in the hydrolic plunger under the black cap on top of the carb, make sure you only use light oil in them like sewing machine oil.
