DAZDA Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Had a run in the Thornleigh Car Club Supersprint at Wakefield Park on Sunday! Had a great time, managed to improve on my PB by 0.6s, so I'm now down to a 1m 15.1s for the Zed (standard L28 with round top SU copies, points ignition, and standard brakes). Didn't win my class though because standard EVOs, STis & WRXs get put in Type 2. 4WD, 200kW, & Brembo brakes, how the F*#k can I beat that! Nearly got the 2 WRXs though. Steve Goodwin was there with his Red 260Z, and set some very good times too. The LMP3 (Le Mans Prototype - category 3) was an awesome bit of gear. Gordo Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Those classes suck man. I don't no how they can justify a 1970s car equal to 2010 cars, they have rocks in there heads. Some clubs down here have changed classes to pre 1986 and post 1986 and it works well, Divides the turbo and fwd cars. On the plus side you did a PB. Well done. Quote

I guess I just have to accept that because the original L24 was substituted (by the previous owner) for a standard L28, I have to be in Type 2. I assume they (CAMS??) work on the theory that if you are going to substitute an engine you'd pick something with a much better Power/Litre figure... Anyway, much fun was had regardless. Quote

When I first started doing supersprints in my type 2 0-1600cc almost class winning Stanza SSS, it wasn't too bad, the cars of the time were pretty cheap and not a lot of technology involved. At least I wasn't running against someone in an orange 2.4 litre datsun, just when he had the occasional outing in some rusty Fiat 124. The class system probably now needs an overhaul to take into account 4WD and what is becoming the shit fight with what is R type tyre. Glad I race in a fairly open category where the rules can be stretched and the my weapon of choice is cheap and relatively plentiful, like the Z was 15-20 years ago. Quote

And that orange 1600 did start off as a L18, but sort of somehow grew balls, to a schnick just over 2 litre, only. Yes those were ripping fun days, long live the Group 7 format, ie 7 different car clubs, banding together to run events, hold interclub championships, both dirt and tar, with full fields of over 100 competitors at every event. In mid 1980's i only had, in one year, four weekends of NO motorsport of any kind! All grass roots club level. I encourage anyone thinking at all about this, or other events, just go do it, as, you are a long time dead! Quote

I'm not a member of TCC, but I'm pretty sure they only do one Supersprint a year. They do run Motorkhanas and Khanacross events as well. See their website (I listed above) for deails. Any pics? I'll try to post some once I get some... None yet, despite plenty of cameras on the day. Quote
