fluegel Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 I am putting the new camshaft back into myZ I would like an opinion on the best torque setting for the sprocket bolt. The Haymes manual says 40 lbft , the Racer Brown article recomends 70 lbft with locktite whereas the L4 engines seem to use 100lbft. I noticed the bolt was easy to undo when I originaly took the cam out I know I had torqued it to 40 lb ft. Quote
peter mc Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 70ft.lb with loctite is good make shore you hold the cam with a shifter as you tighten the bolt . Do not just rely on the chain as it will stretch and do damage Quote
DAZDA Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 I’m sure you would anyway, but make sure the cam face (where the cam gear slides on to the cam), the cam gear face, and the washer for the bolt are all clean, smooth, and flat. Anything that makes these faces not bolt up flat with each other could cause problems later. Quote

I cleaned the threads with thinner the other faces were clean and flat as I remember soI hope things hold. Quote
NZeder Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 I believe the Haynes manual 240z/260z one has the incorrect setting listed. I would go with the advice already posted. Quote
