620Z Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 I have been reading a little bit about upgrading the U-Joint on the drive shaft from the standard sized Zed one to a larger one. I have a minor vibration in the car under deceleration and am not sure if this might be the problem since my high horse power might have strained it a little. I was wondering if anyone might have done something in this area or experience a similar problem. The tail shaft is balanced and I don't reckon it is the Z31 half shaft or LSD. So I am narrowing it down. Quote
sco_aus Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 I thought you would have had CV joints, if not, I have some 280zx CV shafts for sale includes companion flanges. Quote
620Z Posted May 15, 2007 Author Posted May 15, 2007 Yeah I have a set of Z31 half shafts (CV Joints) as mentioned above. I think my problem might be the U-Joint or connection between the front of the diff to the drive shaft. I might have strained it when I did some drags a few years back. If I replace it I am thinking I might go the bigger one that is available. This was the site, just wondering if anyone has gone down this track. https://shell7.tdl.com/~jags/Pages/Parts_DAT_driveshaft_flange.html Quote
Rod F Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 I had a vibration during deceleration. I thought it may have been the bolts or driveshafts, turns out it was the U-joint on the tailshaft. Quote
620Z Posted May 16, 2007 Author Posted May 16, 2007 Hey Rod, yeah I have re drilled the holes in my half shafts and put new bolts in and this fixed it a little. Thanks for the confirmation as that is what I was hoping to hear. A few stories like yours to confirm my thinking. I will have to maybe tackle this U-joint I think and maybe not do any more Drags unless I can find a super big one that will handle the stress. I just want the car to drive and feel like a normal car despit having over 500bhp. I am a bit of a perfectionist and still strive to get this car running as smooth as the Commodore. Quote
nat0_240_chevZ Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 as smooth as a commy, OH NO we dont want that!, rougher rougher!!! craig try this, unbolt the tailshaft from the diff, rotate 180 deg's and bolt back up, worth a try, worked on an old car of mine. if you have tried it already, well as above!!! nato Quote
620Z Posted May 17, 2007 Author Posted May 17, 2007 Yeah good idea Nato I did read something about doing that a while ago. I will suss it out. Mind you for all the work if it costs $100- for a new bigger flange then I would just go all the way straight up. Cheers Quote
