zed240au Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Because of the rules i had to fit standard belts plus as well as harness to get my mod plate approval I bought set of brand new klippan think they where to suit 180b lap sash without Inertial reel type At work we have used ea falcon ones in lot of older cars that needed new belts they a pretty universal fit Check out the klippan range at your local repco pretty sure u will find a new set there Quote
DatPilot Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 I recently bought some original second hand seatbelts, but they are really grubby, looks like oily hands have been all over them. Any suggestions on cleaning them up? Im not sure if degreaser will damage them? Quote
PZG302 Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 I recently bought some original second hand seatbelts, but they are really grubby, looks like oily hands have been all over them. Any suggestions on cleaning them up? Im not sure if degreaser will damage them? If they are coated in oil and grime, and original, ie around 40 years old, I would personally bin them and get new belts. If the buckles are sound you may be able to get the belts re webbed. The webbing will more than likely be shot and won't do it's job if you do need them. There's a reason that race cars have the belts lifed at 5 years for international and 10 years for state level, and are made non operational after a big shunt. You can also be made to replace them if they are contanimated by oil and grease that affect the performance of teh webbing. Quote
jamo240 Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 I believe there is a guy in Ballarat who can take your original buckles and re-sew new belt material onto them and certify them...I haven't followed up yet, but I think he does aircraft belts and can resurrect old belts so you don't have to fit non-original stuff. I got the set I am intending to use from the USA...they do not appear to be quite the same as Australian delivered 240 belts, and the labels on them show compliance to US FMVSS standards, not Australian ADR's, so I kinda have to re-web mine to achieve compliance....if anyone has an original set of Australian 240 belts they want to sell, I'm happy to buy. DeWit Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Hi jamo I have a set of original belts from my 73 sitting in a box in the garage, they are not the clip in type, they hook into each other, their clean. I replaced with new clip in fixed belts, I like to be pulled tight into the seat when driving. Pm me if your interested ? Quote
