drzoidberg Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Any one know if the whole rear end (susp, diff ect) will slot into a 280zx? cheers Quote
bullzed Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Short answer, no. The springs and shocks are separate on the 300ZX rear trailing arm whereas it's a single strut in the 280ZX. Not only that but the diff mount is completely different. If you want it to 'slot in' you'll have a lot of trouble, if you don't mind a bit of fabrication, then it wouldn't be a hard task. In the end, it's still probably easier and more effective to go with bolt on brake upgrades, LSD and a set of weld on coils. Quote
dat2kman Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 If you REALLY wanted to do it, get a plasme cutter!!!, and cut the whole floor pan, with all sispension pickups and mounts, out of the z31, do the same with the zx, and just weld the z31 back half inner floor pan. Thete will be a few gaps, Sikaflex will fix these. The upper strut top mounts may need playes welded onto the zx, just cut these out of the 31 and weld them in. Try to measure from front crossmember to rear points to ,ake sure you get the new grafted rear floor pan as square as possible. Make sure its all done on an already registerd zx, that way you wont need to get it engineered. Back in old days when fronts of one car would be welded onto back of anotjer car, ie re-birthing, we would use black schutz a thick tar like coating on the underside, to hide joins. For the interior, just use heaps of glue to glue carpet to floor pan, that way, no-one can lift carpet to check for any dodgy business. I wont tell, if ypu wont tell, OK? Quote
drzoidberg Posted January 28, 2012 Author Posted January 28, 2012 yeah bit to extreme for little ol me, pity though id like one of those r200s in there Quote
tir33d Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 my 280zx has a R200. Standard as far as I know in the manuals. Quote
bullzed Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 R200's are standard for the manuals and only a few had the R180 in the automatics. If you're wanting an LSD, you'll have to look for the 85 - 87 turbo non 'Shiro' editions. These are the R200 LSD's, go for around $750 - $1000 depending on condition. Mind you, you can get aftermarket centres which are the same price and heaps easier to find. Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 If you're wanting an LSD, you'll have to look for the 85 - 87 turbo non 'Shiro' editions. You also have to live in the USA. Quote
