haul Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Hi all, my second toy is an 1988 skyline silhouette GTS ( aus spec RB30). Problem is sometimes it will start first kick or you will be cranking multible times before it will start (30sec to a minute), it has had the crank angle sensor replaced along with plugs, coil, leads, AFM, it was looked at by a performace work shop and thier auto elec traced it to the computer so that was replaced, still doing the same thing, fuel pressure was also checked which was fine, so now with everything replaced I am at a dead end as to what next to look at, so I now put out there to all you motor guru's any suggestions on what to look at next. Cheers Tony Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted January 14, 2012 Moderators Posted January 14, 2012 When it starts first kick, is that with warm or cold engine? Check the volts of the battery while under crank with a multimeter; if below 10.5 under crank replace battery, but if its above 11v, should be fine. If the ECU doesn't get a good voltage or any other components, it may be hard to start. Quote
Agno Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Try cleaning out your AAC valve. Also try starting the car while wiggling the CAS plug, on occasion mine will be hard to start because the contact is a bit dodgey. Quote
haul Posted January 14, 2012 Author Posted January 14, 2012 It does it cold or hot, it may start first kick or not its just random, the battery is new, its very frustrating, your hesitant to take it out for fear it may not start at all. The CAS plug was the first thing replaced when it started doing this. What is the AAC valve?. Tony Quote
Agno Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Look at the back of the throttle body and there should be a cylinder labelled "AAC valve" Could it be sticky injectors? Try searching on a deadicated rb30 forum like r31 skyline club or Calais turbo as it may have been covered before Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted January 14, 2012 Moderators Posted January 14, 2012 Could be a worn ignition switch? Had one before cranking the engine but not supplying the ignition system/ECU any power. Grab a test light and probe around while the engine is cranking and make sure 12v is present. Quote
peter mc Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 was the bearing replaced with the cas ,if it was not the CAS will fail again this happend to me some years ago you can check for red rust dust in the distributor if you take the cap and rotor of then remove the 2 screws and plate and check for red dust if it has got dust in there the bearing has failed and needs replaced with the CAS also clean the plate all the holes need to be spotless Quote
haul Posted January 15, 2012 Author Posted January 15, 2012 G'day Peter, the bearing was changed but not for 2 weeks after I did the CAS,If you think this could have buggered the CAS again I will replace it, I will have a look at the ignition and the AAC valve as suggested by Zedman and Agno, thanks gents. so if you can think of anything else Peter that maybe causing this let me know,Thank again gents for your help. Cheers Tony Just had a look at the invoice from the performace shop they replaced the CAS and Bearing again so the CAS should be right. Quote
peter mc Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 mate just run a clean white rag over the disc and see if it has red rust dust on it if it does then replace if its clean don't bother but it needs to be spotles ok Quote
