Im thinking of taking out toe backseat to accomodate a subwoofer in the back where it would have been. Does the backseat have to be in to get a roadworthy or can it be taken out?

yes would be the answer in short .

the reason they need to be in there is because by the mod plate in the car it is legally able to seat 4 people.

but you can get the mod plate changed it is generally a lot more stuffing around then its worth.

not really, to get it engineered as a two seater all you need to do is remove all of the rear seas and belts.

Then just front up to an engineer, give him some cash, he'll write it up, then take it to your local RTA for finalization.

realise though, that once you remove it, you cant put it back in without going back through the RTA for approval.

Slightly off topic, but I'm glad I don't have to go through all of this where I live.

When we replace back seats with sub enclosures, we just simply do it. The only thing that would be checked when someone gets pulled over is that there are enough seat belts for the number occupants. If there are no seats, there is no issue.

It seems from some posts that if you want to set something in the trunk to transport it home, you need to get an engineering cert. lol

The lack of room for a sub enclosure in a two seater is a reason why I almost wish I bought a 2+2. I'm strugling with where exactly I'm going to install a sub. I've narrowed it down to two very custom enclosures behind the front wheels, inside the fenders, or a single enclosure in the rear quarter opposite the fuel fill (driver side for me, passenger side for you lol).

What subs are you looking at installing? There may be better options.

thanks for the replys, i had a feeling it wouldnt be so straight forward in vic :P

i got an orion H2 15.2...its mainly for SQL.  i think the enclosure is at least 3 cf ?

Reason i want the seats gone is to give it a false floor to accomodate the amps (Orion XTR 2250 and Rockford Fosgate Punch 150)

When I bought my car, the PO/PR had taken the rear seats out, and continued the rear floor forward over the seat wells with particle board to make a large lockbox area. The car hadn't been engineered for this, and had been over the pits for years in VIC/NSW, and when I brought it back over to SA there wasn't so much as a eyebrow raised at it. People don't know these cars well enough unless they were into them to spot it, and even if they are, what would be the difference between having the back seats in, folded down, and extending the floor to cover the same area? Nill.

I was chatting to my engineer a while back when i had a 2+2 about this same exact idea. His recommendation was simple - just to plug the old seat belt holes with bolts, remove the back seat and then it could be registered with only 2 seats he said. Hope this helps

thanks for the replies guys, but alot of conflicting advice hehe. I might speak to vicroads when it gets closer anyway, id rather do it right the first time, than have to go through alot of crap later on.

Thanks tho

Google for 'Mustang Custom Rear Seat Delete' images or something to that effect. While browsing a Mustang specialist's shop he explained it was common enough procedure for Mustang owners that you could buy kits for it. There is some pretty interesting ideas that could be used.

Check that brace out.

Personally I've thought about just fitting it up as a storage compartment.
