Ok, so I was looking on ebay.com for Datsun parts and I come across two words that made my day, CV conversion. I asked the seller a couple of questions and I was very happy with the response, so I bid on it. In the end I missed the bid by $10, but he contacted me after the bid and said that if I want, he can sell me a kit for my highest bid being $850USD!!! I know thats a lot of money, but considering machining, purchase of 280ZX shafts and having my diff joint fit them, i was looking at paying 2/3 of this kit, but no where near the strength of 4340 zinc plated shafts. So anyway here is the list of stuff that comes withthe kit.

Also, if you are interested it will cost approx $1350 oz dollars including shipping. So let me know if you are and i will contact him and see what i can do.

No idea how much experience you've had on eBay but just be warey of second chance offers, make sure its legit, but i suppose if he has several of them for sale then its probably actauly him emailing you, not a piece of poop scammer. :twisted:

Yeh cheers mate, they have a really good feedback rating and the guy in the emails really knew his stuff. A lot of money to risk though I know.

Well it arrived last Friday and although it wont be on the car for a couple of weeks at least, it looks and feels the goods. Looking forward to doing some good launches without fretting over snapping the shafts.

They look great. I have a set similar on my car. Mind you if you are saying you will be launching the car trouble free think again. Sure you won't be braking any half shafts. But the next thing for you to look at would be the Diff mounts. Being the moustache Bar and it's bush's and also a chain or brace similar to what I posted over the top of the front of the diff. Only then will you be launching the Zed hassle free. Just something to think of later down the track. Remember our works in progress never end. :)

for drag car launches, yes bushes and front diff mount is a must and not necessarily the half shafts.

 

A 600hp v8 zed in the states succesfully runs at the drags with a 10.8s quarter and has only had on shft let go!!

 

How he manages this is the drive shaft angles, less=better. this is all set at an aproximate of when the car squats so they become basically dead straight. Yes quality ujoints are a must, but a solid front diff mount and good unis all round are a must, then rear mounts must be good with nothing less than tight poly bushes or ally bushes to stabalise the rotation resistance.

 

If your racing and not draging you should be fine with a chain and poly bushes. dragging is a different story as u normally have bigger stickyer tyres as compared to racing.

 

Dropping the clutch harshly is not effectiv in any launch unless u WANT to spin the wheels. Some clutch slipping is best practice no doubt about it aswell as the autos do the same thing with their stall converters etc, a gradual full load aplication is a must.

 

My r180 open has had no rear end problems except the PO snaped a mous bar stud dur to worn mous bar bushes, and a slightly loose strap setup, (this will be fixed shortly when r200 is employed)

Also the half shafts cop a beating and had no probs with them yet, which i doubt yours will in comparison as huge amounts of torque, as compared to an rb25det wich only realy creats torque when on boost.

 

Shock loading breaks things (fact) careless driving, in racing there is NO reason to do this whatso ever. It is purely bad driving, and is expensive trying to blow things up.

Yeah I think I read the same article Nato. Wondered how he was still running. I too have been running a stock rear end with just a chain over the diff for the last 6-8 years. But things were wearing or losening. Mind you I did crack a moustache bar long, long ago. Needed a replacement. Probably as a result of a burnout putting too much pressure in place unsupported or set up for big HP. I suppose I am just raising awareness of other things that can be done if you are striving for bigger, better, best case scenario.

Yeh I already have a solid front diff mount and full bushing all round :D I already know how to launch it, just didnt trust it before. Especially after playing with the UJ shafts when pulling the rear suspenion out and it had really bad play in the joints and they looked really bad (i dont actually do many hard launches either).
