sco_aus Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 My RB is a 94 and it has it, as far as I know they all did. The R32 RB25's were only non turbo, but im pretty sure they still had it. The lifters in the Neo were 9mm or so compared to 8.5 in earlier. There are a few other differences too, but the turbo is good turbo from them, much more responsive. Quote
nat0_240_chevZ Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 my good friend has just picked up an r32 with an rb25det but non vvt. all plates match on the cut, engine and body # etc. Also not the first one i have come accross. also this non vvt head is the prefered head for the rb30/rb25 hybrid. nato Quote

Mr Camouflage Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 say....just hypothetically...someone had an f54 block and a p90 head on their car' date=' and a 280zx turbo manifold lying around...it shouldn't be too expensive should it? i plan on going with megasquirt and using a NA 280zx intake manifold and fabbing a downpipe and buying a t3 turbo...what do you think?[/quote'] Hypothetically if you had a L28 (in a car you bought for $600 and didn't even realise it was a L28 untill you were filling out the rego change-over papers after handing over the cash) with a P90 head (after noticing P90 cast into the head while giving the car a tune up ) Hypothetically Megasquirt is around AU$400 How much would a turbo cost you? L6 Turbo oil pump L6 Turbo dizzy might be able to get by using non turbo oil pump (I wouldnt try it though) and dizzy (you would have to do some research on www.hybridz.org to find out more) Other stuff you would need: Turbo fuel injectors High pressure fuel pump and regulator. Intercooler, and pipe work. Then theres fitting it to the engine, tuning etc. Like everyone else has said, don't expect to get alot of HP without spending some money though, or you will break things. Cheap = bolting it all to the stock L28. If you keep the boost low it should be ok. (L28's i think has 8.5 cr and the L28ET was around 7.9 cr , again, hybridZ.org is a good place full of L28ET knowledge) If you are paying someone else to do the work it will get expensive real quick. More expensive would be to tear down the engine and use turbo pistons, and rebuilt it to stand how much power you want to get out of it. I'd bolt the turbo on the F54/P90 L28 and see how it goes at first Quote

I'd bolt the turbo on the F54/P90 L28 and see how it goes at first Mine still uses a standard oil pump and dizzy and it's been together for over 10 years and done many hill climbs and track days. I will say though that a better oil pump is on my to do list. If I can run 10psi with only shaved pistons then you should be able to run a bit more throught a F54 block and P90 head. Mine would be running higher compression because shaving the pistons doesn't take the compression down as much as a P90 head would. Also my pistons will be weaker due to having thinner crowns so I can't see why that setup wouldn't be happy running 13-14psi or even higher! Quote
Zeddophile Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 Megasquirt V3.0 is $270AUD delivered, in unassembled form. Mines all built, and loaded with the Extra code for many other functions, just collecting one or two pieces to actually fit it up. Or, if you wanted a built one, I'd build it for $400. If you run a Megaquirt with Extra code loaded, you can scrap the dizzy completely, and use commodore coil packs, or just scrap the ignition module and control spark from megasquirt. In my rangie I'm keeping the dizzy, locking the advance and getting rid of the module, and using megasquirt to drive the coil, and control the advance curve. Quote
luke_mcmahon85 Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 yeah, for spark, i was going to run MS'n'S hopefully through a ford EDIS-6 system, there's some write-ups on hybrids that make this seem a very feasable option....does anyone know if falcons ever came with the EDIS system? it would have been mid to late 90's i think. otherwise, a turbo dizzy from the US won't be too great a deal in the grand scheme. as for the oil pump, i simply assumed it had the larger oil pump as it came wit the F54 block and P90A head, but i'd have to check. i was planning on building MS myself, i figure it'll be a good learning experience, although i will totally hit you up for help when i finally get around to all this. i'm not looking to create a monster, just a long term goal of a more powerful yet still reliable z. i'm on my p's until July, and even after than i'm sure insurance on this will be a killer. i might even take a very gradual approach....fitting fuel injection and megasquirt fuel only to begin with....then adding EDIS...and then adding the turbo once everything else is proven as reliable Quote
zedevan Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 i asked my insurance company how much more my insurance would be if i had a "turbo kit" and they said $100 more on my excess, and that was all! i was also born in 85, however before i do anything i plan on calling them up to confirm this lol Quote
luke_mcmahon85 Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 haha, yeah, probably a good idea, although that sounds like a sweet deal. i don't think my insurance company knows i have a different engine (L28) in mine, when i talked to them they asked me if it was the original engine, i just told them no, but it's just been replaced with a different optional engine....oh well....looks the same.....
