Bigfella Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I know that fitting of these Flairs has been covered before. I am hoping to fit my rear quarter in the next little while and I was wondering if I would be wasting my time welding them around the wheel arch as I would like to fit ZG guards. I am thinking that the arches are cut away when they are fitted. Thanks Matt Quote
benny Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 hey mate, Ill be doing this shortly also. Heres a writeup from hybridz- http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/47525-how-to-mount-them-there-zg-flares/ Quote
zzzzed Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I have done it. Make sure you cut the outside skin a little higher than the inside skin so you can fould the inside skin up to meat the outside skin and then weld them both togeather I hope that was not to confusing Quote

I guess I will need to get some guards so I can work out how much I need to cut.. But at least that answers my question. I won't bother welding the wheel arch together. Thanks Matt Quote
handsandwhich Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 That link posted above shows how much needs to be cut out. Anyways what you do (and what I did) was lay/tape the flares over the existing guards where you want them to sit and trace the outline of the flare with a texta and then make sure to cut below your marked line to leave some meat on the guard to hold the flare in place. I think welding the guard back together is the best way to go to re-gain the structural integrity of the body. You could silicone or glue it back together to give some sort of support but welding is the way to go IMO Quote
FLEXZED Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 That link posted above shows how much needs to be cut out. the link says 6 inch/150 mm i find the very hard to beleive seems like alot to me Loui Quote
Bigfella Posted March 29, 2011 Author Posted March 29, 2011 What I mean by saying I won't bother welding the wheel arch back together. Is going back to my question. When I install the guard back on the car I won't go to the trouble of welding the arch in the original position. Only then having to cut and reweld it once I get zg flares. I think you guy took it to say I was not going to weld the arches back together at all. Cheers Matt. Quote
handsandwhich Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 the link says 6 inch/150 mm i find the very hard to beleive seems like alot to me Loui Yes does sound like a lot. I ended up cutting around 90mm off the rears and about 75 off the fronts. But there are others that have cut way higher than this, like that guy on youtube that virtually cut out half the guard to mount huge wheels/tyres. bigfella, now I understand what you were meaning re the welded guards.
