wildy55 Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Hi there I'll shortly be fitting a new system to the Z and want to know if there's any easy method or tips for getting the extractors off the head. A couple of people have told me it's a right pig to get off. How do I make this task easier? Cheers Martin Quote
bryan3976 Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 wd40 and undo not rely that hard just take Ur time Quote
Scoota G Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 There are two bolts underneath that fix the manifolds (both of them) to the head that are a particular pain. You'll ruin the gasket anyways so get the top ones holding the intake all the way off and the bottom one's just loose (you can remove the heat sheild if it has one to get a socket/ extension onto most of them) then ease off the intake and go from there. dat2kman Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 def remove the intake man, makes the job eaiser, and yes soak in wd 40, come back a day later, soak in more wd40, repeat for next four days, then pick up the spanner! Quote
wildy55 Posted February 6, 2011 Author Posted February 6, 2011 Do I need to take the carbs off the inlet manifold before I undo it or will they come off with the manifold? Quote
lightmaster240z Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Carb will come off with the manifold, as I have just done this my self and it just take time. Quote
Scoota G Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Yea no need to take off the carbs seperately. Quote
wildy55 Posted February 7, 2011 Author Posted February 7, 2011 Cheers guys, guess me and WD are gonna become friends! Quote
Scoota G Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 While you are there clean out all the threads too with an air gun or tap and die, or both. Sure makes it easier to put back together. Quote
Wayne G Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 If you don't already have them, get yourself a set of 3/8 drive wobble extension bars and shallow, mid and deep sockets in 6 point configuration in appropriate sizes. There are many approaches however years in workshops taught me that, whilst less comfortable to work on, exhausts tend to undo much easier when the engine is hot. This is for a combination of factors that I won't bore you with but if doing this way get gloves and long sleeve shirt! Quote
dat2kman Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 And please shove some pieces of rag down each hole, in case anything happens to sort of just fall in! Quote
