Stivva Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 Hi guys, I am currently in japan and hopefully tomorrow will be at okazaki visit rocky autos. It is roughly an hour an 40 minutes, from Osaka where I am staying at the moment so I hope I can get some photos online. This may be a small brag thread, but more to the point is there any detail photo shots that any members would like to request? I was hopingto buy some thing while here, but everytime I see anything worthwhile it becomes a whole box load of things that I would love to bring home! Quote
bryan3976 Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 your luky i think engine shots dont forget Quote
Taz Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 not sure if its relevant to just cars but can you post up info on your whole trip? the good bits and bad bits? as im planning on going over there next year. Cheers Quote
Stivva Posted November 15, 2010 Author Posted November 15, 2010 Absolutely mate, but start to learn some basic Japanese. I did a few weeks at home and it sure has helped. If not you will get by, but it is a struggle at times. Quote
RB30X Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 From what I've heard Japan is very commercialised compared to countries such as South Korea and not speaking the local lingo isn't completely necessary, although I'm sure it would make it easier. Quote
Huw Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 Solely personal opinion....but.... you can do the tourist leg and see Japan perfectly well.....but it will be a far different experience than if you can use the language (even a little bit). Tokyo/Osaka way less of an issue (see rb30x comments) but if you want to get out of town and see anything other than the tourist loop, have a shot at it.....the basic structures are quite simple (quite a lot of grammar but once you know the rules it is flexible)....also makes nice food easier to find! Also helps when the .... hits the fan in airports or other places (speaking from experience after having to be 're-admitted' to the country without customs/visa approval after leaving a wallet on the other side of the gates......I don't think I would have had much luck with the kindly policeman/security guard in english.....as it was he just gave me a sermon in Japanese and let me through. If you get the time and have the energy....Kyushu is fantastic (I used to live there and spend 3-5 months a year out that way since) P.s. If Rockyauto and that lot are worth the trip....let us know! (then all I need to do is figure out a convincing excuse to drag the boss up that way). Huw Quote
RB30X Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 I love how in the HP mags lately they've been showing different old school workshops around Japan. Rocky auto was one but there are just Zeds everywhere in the pics and the articles are awesome. I would so do a tour of them all if I ever go over. Quote
Stivva Posted December 1, 2010 Author Posted December 1, 2010 Back guys, pictures to come. There are some zeds and things in some upcoming issues of PI (or HPI) btw. Keep an eye out for the feb issue I think it is. Quote
