Scottz Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Hi all, I was interested from the start and contacted the originator of the thread with my thoughts. I suggested to Tai changing the width by 0.5". I was not tramping on his karma, but I wanted to tweak the screws a bit. 17x9 -13 offset, Rear. 17x8.5 -6 offset, Front. (114 mm backspace for F & R). Looking through past threads, particularly NZeder, Scando and Sulio, and paying attention to tyre size/s used by members with the 17x9 and 17x9.5 wheels, I think the 0.5" change is a better fit. Okay - I'm ready for the ear bashing, and the -karma, but I'm prepared to put this up first before throwing $$ at it. And not to forget a group buy is one colour choice. For tyres, there’s plenty of good rubber available which will show off the rims and look the part. The over stretched look is not my scene: 225/45 – OD=634mm, same as OEM. This is my front tyre choice. 235/45 – OD=644mm, 1.6% increase. 245/40 – OD=628mm, 0.9% decrease. This is my choice for rear tyre. 255/40 – OD=636mm, 0.3% increase. Having said all that, some tyre brands have variances in appearance and actual dimensions are +/- ish. I bought the last Rota’s from Benzed and he has unquestionably made it clear on the forum that he is not dealing with Rota anymore. And no I’m not selling the Rota’s. It’s a disease that starts with one car and grows into an addiction. Thus I need more wheels. So – What’s the consensus? 17x9.5 & 9 or 17x9 & 8.5 ? Now you can bash me with your key boards. Scottz. I seem to be collecting stuff and I like it! Quote
sco_aus Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 And I back up what they say, I have them in 17x8.5 and 9 and I wouldnt want any wider Quote
Retro Z Posted January 24, 2011 Author Posted January 24, 2011 Hey guys. Price will be roughly $850-900 delivered and a further $50 or so to send to nsw etc. Although the aussie dollar has started to get a little weak since I got the quotes a few months back. Those prices are 17x9.5. Just got off the phone with Rota and if we want staggered fitment we need 5 sets of each, so 10 people!! Unless we get same front and rear. Quote
wildy55 Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 I'm still in for the smaller widths. Is the price any cheaper due to the thinner rims? Whatever, I'm keen on the rims. Quote
Ledge Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Hey I suppose the main problem is getting 10 people that want the same combo I need 9 and 9.5 as they are for spares for track car but i can understand why people may want 0.5 less front and rear. If anyone has a pair of 9.5's they want to sell i would be keen. Regards Paul Quote
Premo 264z Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Any updates on this? I'm probably never going to beat Ledge (Paul) at a hill climb so I might as well look killer instead. I have ZG flares on the way for my 260z build so I'm thinking 9.5's front and back (easy rotation if I'm running low on tread). Does anyone have pictures of said offset's with or without flares. The numbers dont sound quite right to me. Might help people to make a good decision as 8.5's would need a fair offset to sit nice with front guards. Any wheel can look good with the right offset, good wheels look insane with the right offset, hell even tri spokes can look good with offset... no wait... tri spokes... forget I said that. Quote
Ledge Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Hey premo I have a couple of 9.5's without tyres on them yet you can come up to work and borrow one for a trial fitment if you want, Let me know . Paul Quote
wildy55 Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I'm still keen on the group buy of the 8.5/9" Is this something that's going to be discussed forever or are there others that want to go ahead? I'm sure even three or four of us could get a perferred price from Rota? Who's in? Quote
Premo 264z Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Not sure how long delivery will take for flares but a trial fit would make up my mind for me, just have to add three inches minus lip to body. Have you run 9.5's on the front or is it "too much"? Thanks mate, your a champ Quote
Ledge Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I think the main problem will be clearance on the inside . The 9.5 rim goes in 6mm more and out 6mm more than the 9. Dont think it will clear unless you have coil overs . No harm im checking . Paul Quote
Premo 264z Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Will be making sleeved coil overs if I can find nice inserts without busting budget, so as long as the clearance issue is with the massive stock spring seat and not the strut tube then should be all good. Quote
