Heater hoses

While out testing, I noticed the temp getting too hot. I pulled into a random house and found I had a leak, toppped it up and limped  home (rolled when I could).

I have split the one that goes from the head (near cyl 6) into the firewall, presume to the heater core.

It has a bend in it, so can't just use a straight length.

 

So my question is-

Where is a good place to get heater hoses?

Some Repco's let you browse through their collection of hoses so you may be able to find one with a similar bend that you need from another model. I've done that in the past with some success.

I had the same thing happen in mr R30 Skyline,

Do not use 2nd had ones ever (learned that the hard way)

 

I ended up buying a pair that were listed for the MQ L28 patrol, had to cut the ends but it worked perfectly.

 

I have blown 2 heater cores now, spent a Canberra winter without heat. Finally figured out what the problem is too.

I bought this nice shiny metallic blue CPC Radiator cap, cos it was newer (old one had cracks in teh rubber etc)

What I didnt think of is the PSI rating was higher than the factory setup, so instead of depressurising into the overflow bottle at 0.9 bar, it would keep building pressure to 1.5 bar and pop the heater core, or the heater hoses.

 

so now I have new radiator, all new hoses, new cap(at 0.9 bar) and still no heater (took 12 hours to swap in the last one).....

Finally figured out what the problem is too.

Yes, I was suspecting this, new cap in new alloy radiator is rated to 1.1 bar.

My alloy rad has a kameri 1.2bar cap on it, thats the rating that came with it. No problems with my cooling sytem and heater works fine

Yes, but if my old hoses aren't used to the higher pressure, they're going to pop.

Just fit new hoses like you should've done when you fitted the new radiator  lol.

 

I can't remember properly now but running a higher pressure cap was recommended by the manufacturers of my radiator, something about maximizing the thermal efficiency. Heater hose should have a max pressure rating printed on it

The heater cores i popped are breaking at the mounting locations, so I guess it could be due to the rally driving and bumpy roads out here. (the trip to the coast from canberra isnt that smooth, well not with me driving)
