drifta1600 Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 The HIF-series carburetor differs from the HF-series primarily in the design and location of the float chamber, which has been incorporated in the body of the carburetor, and the introduction of temperature-sensitive mixture control (a bi-metallic strip fitted to the jet adjusting screw mechanism) to compensate for varying fuel densities resulting from changes in fuel temperature. im looking at a pair of these? are they as good as the normal ones that came on older 240s? Thanks :-) Quote
ZED660 Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 I ran a pair of HIF6 SU's on my 2.8 motor for quite a while and had no problems at all. Needles were easy to come by and they stayed in tune quite well. Quote
zedrally Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Are they any good? That's subjective as to who you ask... I run both (in a 240 & HIF in the 260, the 260 purely for originality, not performance). which performs better, the 240 of course, however the HIF are the most mis-understood carbie in the Datsun range. Introduced as a stop gap measure, prior to FI, they where very mis-understood by people who serviced them, as they where very much more complicated than the standard SU's. If properly serviced, they would perform as good as then 240 SU's, if neglected, then the corresponding decrease if performance would be noticeable. If it's performance you're after them I'd be looking at FI first, then triple something, then 240 SU's lastly HIF's. Can't wait to read other opinions..... Quote
zeds4ever Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Had HS2's fitted to my L28 motor & found that the rear one was always prone to flooding with fire being a big chance, HIF6's were recommended to me by Carbie Specialist . Bought a pair on Ebay fitted new gskts & needles ,etc. Fitted & tuned them with no probs & are running great. Will probably be adding another one to them.(Triple's) . Regards: Alan. Quote
