Mickl Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 Folks My 260 had a bent...now broken...camshaft oiling rail. Any ideas on where to get another one? i understand the 240 didn`t have one but did the 280? Anyhow, it is operating without one at the moment and i guess that is not so good in the long run. Any help or advice will be very welcome. On a second note, the (standard) engine is putting out 90.5 HP at 5100 revs....is that a reasonable performance for this old girl? Thanks in advance mickl Quote
Scoota G Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 I'm thinking it was the 240Z that has the spray bar and not the 260Z. Whats the head type cast into the head on the spark plug side about 1/4 of the way down. Quote
kristian Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 i have i oiling rail if you wont to bye it ?? Quote
Roberto Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Firstly, get another spray bar! Do not drive with a broken one as you will destroy your cam and rockers in no time. I am speaking from experience. As for power, when I first got my 260Z (with flattops) I couldn't believe how gutless it was. Nowhere near 160hp Gross which is now about 130hp SAE at the engine. At the wheels you should have about 110hp which is the best case scenario, assuming everything is good and in tune. If you are 20hp down, it could be various things from engine health (compression ) to timing and fuel delivery. My problem was flattops and too much advance. The flattops never got sorted, so the solution was roundtops and also got 280ZX electronic ignition. Changed the motor completely. Do you have flattops? Quote
Mickl Posted August 2, 2010 Author Posted August 2, 2010 Hello guys Kristian...I will pm you if I can work out how to do so. Roberto.......I have electronic ignition and twin SU round tops already. The 90hp came from the dyno after a tune up last week which set camshaft timing, adjusted carbies etc. The power was well down before the tune as cam timing was well out. The result was well worth the cost of the tune up but maybe this is an old engine which would need some work to get it back to the 110hp you indicate. I will park the car until I manage to get hold of a new oiling rail....which broke during the tune up. thanks for the advice. Regards Mickl Quote
Roberto Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Here are some reported dyno figures in kw and hp at the wheels taken from zhome.com. Mickl you are only 10 - 12hp off what was reported for standard Zeds that day so maybe your engine is just a little tired. Don't forget also, different dynos give slightly different power figures......
