This would be very close to being the first race of a 240Z in Australia. Very impressive too... note how it is diving down inside Doug Macarthur's Rennmax BMW at Reid Park! It has been suggested the driver is a William G Marshall.

The photographer has given me permission to post this photo which I found here.

magnificent photo .. wonder if that is a cooper S on the hill?

I wonder if this photo is showing the old front end lift on the 240Z at speed? I'm presuming the car is traveling pretty quickly, and its on a down-hill run, but the angle of the nose in the air does look slightly telling. I think with the more modern lower and harder suspension much of this is eliminated (not to mention the Spook and other aero that was used in the day).

Do we know if the car has any mods at all? or was it just a 240 off the showroom floor?

Great pic, thanks, not sure who is passing who though :) Yeh some front end lift there, no aero by the look of it.

I don't think it is a cooper, they look like the standard wheels, not the wider cooper variants.

Great photo :D Would have been scary with that lift by the end of conrod....there was no Caltex chase in those days.

It makes me wonder if I was not the first to drive my zed around Bathurst...considering mine was from Sydney.

This would be from the easter meeting in 1970.

Jolly damn shame this pic and any results were not from the year 1969, as this would put the 240z in Historic Prod Sports category Sb, instead of later 1970 to 1976 group Sc..

I wonder if it ran BETTER brakes, ie; Datsun option vented rotors and Sumitomo MK63 four piston calipers???

Anyone have any idea at all how to find out??
