pantah Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 When I was taking a lunchtime stroll today,I walked past a mechanic who was working on an L20 with injection......was a nice looking car with 95000 on the clock. ....... Any 2 litre versions in Australia? Did any 240z 's come with fuel injection in Australia? Notice this car has pollution gear on it ,too.....was a 1975? model I believe...... Quote
Riceburner Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 I have a 77 260 2+2 Jap import which has an L20 but it's falt top carbs with pollution gear. I would guess that the injection is from a 280zx as the emissions carbs are sh@#house. Quote
pantah Posted July 13, 2010 Author Posted July 13, 2010 The guy assured me that the car originally came out with injection......I guess they had,and still do have a lot of variants in Japan that we never see in Australia.... The guy was pretty interesting. He also had a very nice white Honda s800 in his workshop.... Quote
NZeder Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 The chassis code on that L20 with EFI should have been S31 and yes that is how they left the factory - there are a few here in NZ all JDM grey imports - I have had one in my garage for a few months too before Dad collected it (it was his after all) it now has a new home here in NZ. Riceburner Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Well there you go, I'm certainly no expert. The L20 rev really easy, I had mine out to over 7500 when it was going, was really smooth. Gotta like the little hondas, they look very cool in the race livery. Quote
lbs1969 Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Not sure about the L20, but like the sound of the S800 - any pics of that one - there was a fantastic S800 at Hanging Rock in Feb of this year - a red one. Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Actually its an L20A. The L20 was the mid/late 60's version that first appeared in the Cedric. (Also there's the L20B, but that's missing a couple of cylinders ) Quote
pantah Posted July 13, 2010 Author Posted July 13, 2010 I didnt get any pics of the Honda.I will endevour to do so next time..........This bloke had a few Z1's for you bike fans...... Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted July 13, 2010 Moderators Posted July 13, 2010 A member on this forum (but hasnt been seen for quite a while; Stavros) has a JDM 260Z 2+2 with an RB26 but previously to that had a injected L20A engine. What was strange was the module for the distributor was in the passenger side footwell and it had a range of different brackets and components I have never seen on any Australian models. He also has big polished F90 17" Simmons wheels..anyone seen him lately? Quote
AussieZed Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 I owned a fire-engine red 1977 Fairlady (260Z shape with L20A EFI motor) in New Zealand seven years ago. Looks like a 260Z but doesn't actually have that written on the car anywhere - all the badging was Fairlady. It was a sweet little car - revved freely and matched the performance of my 280Z (which was a lot heavier - and a piece of S$#T for the record). There are also Fairlady '280Zs' with the L20A EFI motor in the 280Z body. I owned one of those at one point too, but it was a horrible under-powered thing, and I ended up swapping an L28 into it. Funnily enough my Fairlady had been imported from Japan to Australia in the early 1990's and apparently had turned out for a number of track days in Melbourne (the previous owner had pics). Don't know if anyone in the club remembers it? It was then exported to NZ in the mid 1990s. I sold it in 2003 when I moved to Canada, and it is now under restoration in Dunedin NZ. Quote
