RB26DETT Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 rather then hi-jack lurches thread i though i'd start a new one for this topic. i have a "lowish" number car (#793) and would like to know if there is a way to tell if the diff is in the updated position of the later cars or otherwise? some early girl owners might know... nat0_240_chevZ Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 have a look at moustach bar, it has it mounting curls facing rearward, when the diff is in the later spot, (provided it has the flat with no offset mous bar) the mounting curls are typ facing fords, ie towards the diff, early away from the diff..... hope this helps. early halfshafts also lean rearward somewhat from the diff to wheel, very obvious when on the hoist... nat0 Quote
RB26DETT Posted June 11, 2010 Author Posted June 11, 2010 thanks for the help, will get it on the hoist and check it all out Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted March 6, 2016 Administrators Posted March 6, 2016 Reviving an old thread here, but my 70 240z HS30 00150 has a 71C box in it. I am wondering if anyone has photos of what the earlier diff position vs later position looks like? I have read about curved mustache bars but not sure what it looks like. I am going back to a 71A box and will use the original flange type driveshaft. However I want to move the diff backwards to remove the flaw in the drivetrain vibration they are known for. Does this mean the driveshaft will need to be modified and extended in length? At this stag I'm planning to use an R180 LSD 4.1 or 4.4 diff ratio. So trying to work out what modification I may need to make. Quote

It turns out that there is 2 types of 71A flange based drive shafts. Very early 240z ones were shorter and later ones were longer. So you can move the diff position back provided you use the later driveshaft. Quote
