Brabham Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Hi, just bought some spot weld drills and wondering if I need to use any cutting fluid when drilling out the spot welds. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Cheers. Quote
FLEXZED Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 hey brabham if yolu are talking about these i have bought one and a few extra cutters as you will need them i didnt use any cutting fluid, and they worked great Loui http://cgi.ebay.com.au/HSS-3-8-10mm-ROTARY-SPOT-WELD-WELDER-DRILL-CUTTER_W0QQitemZ380217996825QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Welding?hash=item5886c23619 Quote
nat0_240_chevZ Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 dont run drill too fast whatever you do........ keep it nice and steady, over revving cooks the metal and it goes harder aswell as softening the bit itself, same goes for all drilling Quote
Brabham Posted March 24, 2010 Author Posted March 24, 2010 Any recommended RPM to keep it below on the drill nato? Yep I managed to heat treat a broken off bolt before by continuosly trying to drill it out. Had to resort to a cobalt drill to drill through the damn thing! Reason I ask is that guy at bunnings recommended the cutting fluid. Would I get more life out of the bits by using it? Cheers. Quote
Brabham Posted March 24, 2010 Author Posted March 24, 2010 Loui I bought different ones off ebay as well. Will give them a try on the weekend as I am replacing the sills on my Golf . They are rusted through!!! Quote
Veloce Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 Also thought i'd add the allen key screw on the end of the spot weld cutter can be adjusted to prevent the cutter working its way through both panels. If you set it up right you can release the spot weld without cutting into the back panel. I find its best to start off with a fairly slow drill speed until there is a decent groove then you can lay into it a bit more. Quote
