Hey all,

Looking to re-spray my '79 280zx some time soon.. gonna do all the prep work and stuff myself.. and maybe even get the orbital sander on it.. take off a layer or so to minimise costs in general...

I've been looking around for a place in ACT (or close to ACT) where I can get a good job at a good price (wishful thinking in some cases - lol)... Any suggestions??

Cheers,

Dylan

Dont know any shops in the ACT but a word of advice, if its just a jam job you want and you are doing the prep yourself, stay away from the orbital, a block some 240 wet and dry followed by 600 wet and dry is a safer option.

Cheers

The guy who did mine is down near Cann river, he is cheap and does a good job.  Brenton had his done in Mitchell somewhere before he sold it, for a similar price to mine (I think), but I don't know where and he is over seas now. I spoke to a few people to a few spray painters etc about back yard jobs and they all wanted $2k just to spray it, no prep.  I paid $1500 including prep and some body work and I just had to supply the paint and thinners etc (cost me about $750 for the paint and other supplies).  The more you pay him, the better job he does, but he can work to your budget...

thanks for the replies - been busy so i haven't gotten back on the forums lol.

I'll give you a yell when im just abt rdy to get it done.. if its not gonna save much i might just get the prep done properly (that way if something goes wrong, i have someone to blame other than myself, which is always nice)

cheers

I dunno man, was getting some pretty crazy quotes for painting around the place, let a lone prep work.  One guy wanted $2k just to spray it, then it still had to be prepped and paint purchased, ie it would have been more than twice what I paid for the same sort of work.  But if you can find people to do it still a bit cheaper, then post it up :)

my gf's dad's mate (still following) has a shop in Hume (can't remember the name), so maybe I can get a deal that way! I'll keep you guys posted on how it goes - share some knowledge..

Who owns a Red Z that was in Erindale yesterday around like 6? Spotted ya ;)

The only ACT person on the forum with a red one is Simon, but there is another one getting around with gold simmons, front bar and headlight covers.  Looks tops

yeah it was the one with headlight covers - i personally don't like the look of the covers... but overall the car looks sweet.. i was gonna stop and check it out but the gf woulda given me an ear full!

well yeh, i agree, but over all the looks good i meant

i know what ya meant don't worry ;)

I've been talking with some people that I know about my re-spray.. Looks like I might be able to get myself a pretty nice deal!

I'm going to paint some pieces myself and really just leave the body to the pro's.. and considering im doing the tear down and prep myself.. I'm looking at about $500 for labor costs - the hunt for paint begins...

I might make a thread about paint choices... in fact I will :) be sure to post ur opinion ;)

auto paint shop on Isa st Fyshwick...forgot the name, most people go there..

also Dulux trade store on Maryborough street.

Ive always fancied the olive-grey colour you see on current holden luxury commodores & statemans.

I'll check out those places if all else falls through! thanks mate!

I'm not sure if I wanna go a grey/white/black.. I think I want my Z to stand out (as if it won't already haha) so maybe a blue? a mid-ranged blue.. not sure yet though

Capital Auto paint Supplies on isa street.

Good service and good quality paint.

I get my paint from there, they sell DuPont.

there is also Allard's paint supplies down the street a bit too, from memory they do Alsa corp paint as well as some other high quality brands.

price wise they are very similar, but i have heard a lot of customer feedback that Allard's dont have time for anyone who isnt in the trade.

We stopped recommending customers go there for that reason.
