Aftermarket Radiator for RB25 in 240Z (oil cooler and oil cooler bypass valve)

ok after much searching I think I have found the same oil bypass valve pictured it is a Mocal. Specifications and installation are in this link. http://97.74.103.94/files/thermos$.pdf

Prolonged use of a car engine in conditions where the oil cannot reach its correct working temperature will cause sludge formation and crankcase oil  dilution, leading to excessive wear especially in the cylinder bores. Optimum engine power will only be delivered at correct temperatures. The elimination of drag in engines caused by cold oil is a most important consideration, especially with a racing engine, revving the engine without a load will not put much heat into the oil and devices for preheating the oil may not be available.

It is therefore desirable to control of the oil flow through the cooler by a thermostatic device, we call an oilstat, set to divert oil to the cooler at 80ºC (although a wide range of settings is available for special applications). This is the minimum temperature required to evaporate and dispel contaminating substances.

The Mocal oilstats

 

    * Can be built into the oil cooler take off for most engines with spin-off filters, they add nothing to the thickness of the plate.

    * Are available as a separate unit to be fitted into the oil lines. Two sizes of oilstat for in line fitting are available.

 

The OT/1 can be supplied with push on fittings for 3/8" or 1/2" bore hose only and is designed for smaller engines with relatively low oil flows. Dimensions

The larger OT/2 can be supplied with any form of push on or threaded connection, male or female. Dimensions

 

The bodies of the these units are die cast aluminium. Control is by a "waxstat", a mass produced item built to highest standards. They are light enough to be supported by the hoses, however a bracket is supplied with the slightly heavier OT/2, if further restraint is required.

The oilstats should only be used where oil cooling is adequate, the sensing device will suffer permanent damage above 140°C, replacements are available.

Found a few prices online for a Mocal oil Thermostat with AN-10 fittings looking at  around US$119 see link below.

Just looking at the alloy radiators on ebay, have people found them to be ok quality. There are ones in the US with fans and shrouds etc to suit a 240z with a V8 for $300 then it cost $180 to get them here. Just wondering whether our ebay ones are pretty much the same thing?

Had no issues with mine, came with fans, shrowd, quality is great. Most of the radiators being sold were all produced by the same manufacturer 'champion cooling' then on sold by ebay sellers.

Nope, U.S.A only took 4days  packaged very well. Ebay seller was perfomance-cooling.

FYI, I ended up getting one from the cheap AUS ebay shops ASI as I already have 12 inch thermos. The buy now was $380 or it said make an offer, so due to my extremely tight rectum I offered $200, and they took it.

wow... been looking at trying to fit one of their radiators in my Rangie (possibly the zed one) with a little modification, but the $380 tag was a bit high for a maybe....  Might have to try your trick!

My radiator arrived safely and apart from the holes not lining up even closely, the radiator itself isn't too bad. Ok, so the holes were close but I did have to enlarge all four of them on the body to fit it. Have to pressure test it then swap the normal water with coolant.
