webbered six Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 After some clarification. I have a "C" stamped camshaft, which is supposedly a Nismo cam which makes sense as the motor came from Nismo as a crate motor. Apparently the lift is 434/256 duration but it's mentioned as being a high performance cam. Listening to it you wouldn't think hp. People speak of 274 duration cams, is this going to be more of a performance cam than I have presently.Ricky Quote
webbered six Posted October 18, 2009 Author Posted October 18, 2009 Forgot to ask, can someone suggest a meatier street cam, and will changing cam give more punch. I'm running 3 x 45 webers, L28, flat tops, and 3.0ltr bore Quote
dazzed Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Is the letter c the only markings on the cam? if so its a standard 260z cam , could also be a reground cam but there should be other markings ussually on the cam gear boss Quote
pauly_adams Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 getting into the cam discussion i have both a camshaft with a A stamped on the back also the one from my 260 has B4 stamped on it i was told the B grind was the better of the cams does anyone know the difference between the factory grinds. cheers Pauly Quote
webbered six Posted October 19, 2009 Author Posted October 19, 2009 Dazzed, I'll find out for sure soon as I've ordered a Billet 72 degree. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted October 19, 2009 Moderators Posted October 19, 2009 The cams with the "A" stamped I'm sure are the early 240Z camshafts that are pre-pollution so a bit "lumpier" than a 260 cam that was profiled for emissions. Quote
dat2kman Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 only proper way to do it is to do a dummy engine assy, with No1 piston in on the crank only, snig head to block set up cam chain and dial it up, using dial indicator and a degree wheel on the crank nose, better to take readings on either side of tdc, more accurate. You will then be able to graph out a curve this will give duration/overlap/lift, while at it, then try a different camsprocket hole, and see what this will do for your cam to crank timing ( retard only with the stock three holes) I'm sure it will have been well covered here somewhere.
