Scando Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Hey guys It's not 100% certain yet but it looks like I might be coming to Phillip Island for a run. Bahrain has been cancelled for the Supercars so they're doing another PI meet to fill the hole and our class has been invited to run Unfortuntely it's on the same weekend as the historic meet that Dat2kman has mentioned in another thread (6/7/8 of November) :-\ The cheapest way for me to do this is to trailer the car to Devonport, take it off the trailer and drive both it and the tow vehicle onto the boat then hire a trailer in Melbourne to tow the car to the track. This way it will cost me around $320 return for the two cars on the boat vs $2300 if I took the car on the trailer! So, I was wondering if anybody knows somewhere in Melbourne that does car trailer hire cheap or if a member of the forum has a trailer I could hire off them at a good price Or I may be able to give pit paddock passes to the event in return Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Shane Quote
620Z Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 That price doesn't sound right? People are taking camper trailers on that boat all the time and I am sure they aren't getting charged that amount. What's the difference. A trailer is a trailer and maybe a bit more weight for the car on the back. How did they come up with that figure? Quote

A trailer is a trailer and maybe a bit more weight for the car on the back. How did they come up with that figure? That's the thing, campers and cars are subsidised by the Tasmanian government to bring tourism into Tasmania and are very cheap. Normal trailers aren't subsidised and are super expensive. Some people I know that do regular car/kart racing interstate have made trailers that look like campers so that they get the subsidised rate. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted September 29, 2009 Moderators Posted September 29, 2009 Hollow out an old camper van and lower it over your tandem..hehehe Quote
620Z Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Yeah interesting. Never heard of it. But sort of makes sense. We have 2 people here talking about trailering their Zeds over for our Feb'10 Tassie Race day. They might change their minds if it's going to be real expensive. Quote
Scando Posted September 29, 2009 Author Posted September 29, 2009 Hollow out an old camper van and lower it over your tandem..hehehe Hehe, that's not as silly as it sounds Yeah interesting. Never heard of it. But sort of makes sense. We have 2 people here talking about trailering their Zeds over for our Feb'10 Tassie Race day. They might change their minds if it's going to be real expensive. It will be very expensive for them to trailer the cars over. When it gets closer to the event let me know. Bluerat and myself might be able to find some traliers for them to use over here and they can do what I'm trying to do and tralier the car to the boat then drive it on. Quote
bluerat Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Mrs Blue and Boofhead the wonderhorse just went to Victoria to do the Tom Quilty out at Bunyip last weekend, the Cruiser and her huge horse float cost $1300 with a share cabin return on the boat. Still a smart moove to drive it on Shane, yours being rego'd and all, just dont brake the poor thing. Another option is the Toll boat the leaves out of Burnie, I've heard that is cheaper, but you might have to fly over. Quote
bluerat Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Sorry guy's my mistake, I was just informed that the above was a very special price because there 35 crews going over from here. And no problem with booking trailers etc for anyone who will need one for the "race" day (LOL). Quote
Lgee Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Another option is the Toll boat the leaves out of Burnie, I've heard that is cheaper, but you might have to fly over. The Toll boat has cabins for people, AJL are the people that have the contract in Burnie and Port Melbourne to look after the boat and associated vehicles, the owner is a petrol head, give him a call see if he can do a deal for you. Andrew Lawson i think it is. A.J.L. Mechanical Service 1 River Rd Wivenhoe TAS 7320 (03) 6430 2777 Quote

Scando Posted September 30, 2009 Author Posted September 30, 2009 Thanks heaps for that info Lgee. Lawson is the man to beat in our class. I'll get in contact with him, he might do a good deal if all the guys use Toll for the trip. Quote

620Z Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Lgee you might have to come on our Feb 2010 Tassie trip and join us for 5 day's cruising and one day at Symmons Plains. Quote

Scando Posted October 1, 2009 Author Posted October 1, 2009 Hollow out an old house boat and cruise it up in that. lol, sounds good. I'll just need to pick a very calm day for bass straight Quote
bluerat Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 I know a bloke who runs a boat workshop, he might be able to help? Personally I'm looking at buying a Chinook Helecopter. Quote
Scando Posted October 9, 2009 Author Posted October 9, 2009 Well, I've decided to bite the bullet and take my own trailer. $1700 return for a Transit van towing the car trailer and 2 adults. Ouch! I was worried about what happens if the car breaks down or even worse if I crash it! Also, I'm going to be very tight for time to get back to the boat after racing sunday. Thanks very much to Viking who offered the lend of a trailer Quote
