bronze260z Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 finally got the car on the road 3 months after buying the car. Had all the usual bits done for a RWC and many thanks to Daniel Moore for the RWC and giving the old girl a tune and overhaul. Drove the car to Vicroad in Carlton. Waited about 5 mins. Drove the car in to inspection bay. The insepctor looked under the bonnet, we has a general chat then drove the car over to a waiting bay and 10 mins later I had a set of plates, rego and about $800 less in the back account. Pulled out onto Lygon Street stopped at the second set of lights north bound. Pulled in to the left hand lane at the lights...cause a truck was on the right. Took off slowly then opened her up in second and at about 6000 rpm that's when it happened....steam, water, collant hit me in the face my legs were sooked and i couldn't see a thing cause the windscreen was fogged up. The f@#$n' heater coil sh1t itself. Anyway, called Daniel and he sorted me out Bypassed the heater but with the screw driver that was used to mount the plates and i was on my way again. What a morning. Does anyone have a heater for a 260z 2+2? Might need one for these cold melbourne days Quote
bronze260z Posted August 1, 2009 Author Posted August 1, 2009 screw driver used to undo the clips on the heater hoses if anyone was wondering Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted August 1, 2009 Moderators Posted August 1, 2009 Heheh..what a prick! Are you sure its the heater core? Theres a heap of other hoses under there that can fail. Heater cores can be rebuilt, take a peek under the dash and have a look. Quote
bronze260z Posted August 1, 2009 Author Posted August 1, 2009 water was gushing out of the left hand side vent under the dash on the drivers side. Do i need on take the centre console and dash out to remove the core? Quote
reverendzed Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 I've probably got one here once you work out what the problem is! Rev. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted August 1, 2009 Moderators Posted August 1, 2009 It will make the job a heap easier if you take the dash out; usually takes around 30 mins to remove...and about 4 hours to re-install. Then it's a good thing to replace all the heater hoses that are inside the car. If the water cam down the left side, I'd say its the core. All the hose connections are on the drivers side. You're better off re-coring your own because a second hand one can do the same later on. Quote
S30Mike Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 The heater core on my car screwed up DAYS before i purchased mine haha. Havent had a problem since.. are they known for screwing up for any reasons in particular? Quote
dalee Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 I found mine was leaking because of the tap (drivers side) hopefully its just that which would mean the dash can stay in. However that was after I had taken out 2 dashs, to steal the heater core from another car. Quote
warrenz Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Get it re-cored, then you know you won't have a problem again. I got mine done back in 2008 for $265 at Natrad, but you might be able to get it cheaper if you shop around. On a 240Z at least you can do it without removing the dash. Easy to get out a bit more difficult to get back in. Warren Quote
Lynton Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 check out this heater core http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/74-75-76-77-78-DATSUN-260Z-280Z-HEATER-CORE_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem29fa49e896QQitemZ180292806806QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories You will need to pull out the centre console (watch out for the fine wires to the choke lever they are easy to break) to make it easier to work on pull the steering wheel off and push the front seats all the way back a general flush of the system may show you where the water leak actually is it may not be the core? You will enjoy being a contortionist getting in and out at that low level, make sure you have a really good small light or wear a head band light. You got the right guy getting Daniel Moore to iron out the problems...great knowledge and a good bloke as well. Lynton Quote
bronze260z Posted August 4, 2009 Author Posted August 4, 2009 Spoke to Natrad today in Tullamarine and the guys there said he's done a few of these in the past for around $200+. So I'll take the core out and take it down. At the same time I might as well replace as many hoses and connectors as possible. I'll take some pics when i get started and knowing how i work it'll be sooner rather than later Stay tuned Quote
