Rbz the rocker covers came from the states with engine, but I bought some from eagle spares in melb for my uncle who has a mach 1 1970 and they were around $300 for memory. Also in reply about safety a rollcage is on my list any advice guys?I have harness"s but took them out due to being a 4 seater and my 9 year old sitting in the back seat.I am trying not to make this car a race car, just a semi quick streetcar but as you change things more its getting closer and closer. My car handles pretty well but most of your cars look like they would handle on rails getting out on a circuit track. If I was doing that I would have put a roll cage in first before anything, but your point is very valid.

hey dat392.

can you spill some beans in regards to your engine specs and cost.

ie what was the standard block 351w ? comp ratio, any extra strenght increasing parts etc.....

im trying to figure the best approach for my mustang motor. i do want it EFI and twin hairdriers.

was thinking 302 Au3 and decomp it to suit but hearing mixed stories about strenght of these. 351 is better apperently.

cheers for any info

RBZ my engine is a 351 stroker using a dart aftermarket block and forged steel crank, rods and forged pistons.Compression is 10 to 1 and my main goal was to have a very streetable engine with decent power and torque. The main problem I have been told is with a factory block once a certain power level is reached they can split bores especially with the 302 as they like to rev.eg I had a boss 302 which made 420 hp at 7900rpm and went 11.8 in the zed 118mph.Screamn.If you put turbos on at full throttle the stress on the engine will increase dramatically of course depending on boost.People say they can make big power using factory components with blowers and turbos but for how long? Grout filling the block helps, but you must remember, using second hand parts in a turbo application may hurt in the long run.It all depends on what kind of power you are chasing, and its no different to the zed sixes, factory they can only handle so much.Another problem with mustangs is the shocker towers sticking out.Depending on which model you have may change your engine choice, unless you put an rrs front end in which is $$$.If 302 is your choice, a 347 stroker would be awsome,400 to 500hp naturally aspirated between 10 to 16 grand most with waranty and using aftermarket parts.351 variations all the way up to 460 cubes from 350 hp to 750hp from 10 to 27grand.I know you said hair dryers but setting up a turbo setup properly is big $ as I know one guy who has just finished a fairlane tt 393 windsor. It made 1027hp $35000 later..Depending on your budget it may be better to build a tough natural engine and with the cams today they are very streetable. There is no replacement for cubic inches. This is just my opininion. May be, read the mustang magazine plus forums write ups from the states about windsor engines, strokers, turbos, blowers etc thats where I did my research as speaking to people here confused me a little at the time.Over in USA turbo v8s are huge.

cheers Dat

the problem finding any info or experiences is somewhat limited here in OZ.

u mention turbo efi v8 and Mustang in same sentence u get ur head bitten off.

few guys swear and have 302 efi runing turbos on tired ED xr8 stock internal engine pumping 450hp and still going. not big boost. i was planing for next step to get a late model 302 AU with low kms. decomp it and run pair of nissan t3 style turbos at max boost of approx 12-14psi..

ill be happy with 450-500hp and 6000rpm limit is also fine. its more of a show pony with a twist of modern stuff under the hood.

it be used once in a blue moon hence the reason not wanting to spend 20k + on a engine making it bulletproof.

was planing to go 5.4 twin cam modular engine but too wide for the 67 mustang without the RSS kit. which is a rip off in its own.

I understand where you are coming from mate.Your biggest problem is going to be finding the right engine builder/turbo guru who understands what you want with out ripping your wallet!Just like in my case I originally wanted to go 393 clevor boss after having the 302 boss.Went to many engine builders here in melbourne. They all said I was wasting my time and should build a cleveland as a boss was old technology. But they would do it for 30k.Yeah right.I gave up.That was 3 years a go.Today most of these guys are selling these things with chi alloy heads making 600hp +.You are right though the combo you are suggesting has been done before,as I met a guy with a similar setup in a ac cobra when I took the zed on a cruise with the ac cobra club, what a rocket,11.0 at 130mph .Would be heaps of fun in a mussy.Must say though most people more intersted in the zed.Good luck, do your home work.
