Hi Guys,

Anyone read either of these books?

http://www.amazon.com/Datsun-Fairlady-Motorcycle-Marque-Model/dp/1901295028/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1247437963&sr=1-3

They look like almost the same book. I'm wondering what the differences are? Mainly because there is a huge price difference between the 2.

I'm also looking for a good book on early Mazda Rotary racing history. However ebay seems to only cater to later RX7's.

I want to study up on early Japanese cars, so any other recommended books would be fantastic.

Gav,

The first one of your links is the original version, and the second one is an 'updated' version that has lots of additions and covers some of the S130-series as well.

To be honest, I find the visual layout of the second version a bit jarring in comparison to the original - but that's just a personal observation. Somehow it seems nice to have the original version, but it's worth having the second version too ( quite a few extra photos, some corrections and some extra writing - but some good stuff from the first one was not used ). I'm sure you can find the original on ebay for not too much money, and the second is easily available at discount prices too. Just keep at it and you will pick them up for the right price in the end. I think it is probably worth having both.

Brian has also written books on the S130 and Z31 series combined, and the Z32 and Z33 series combined. There's some crossover data and information between each model in each of these books. You might want to get all four if you are something of a 'completist. Brian has written other books on Japanese cars, which are also well worth owning.

I had a feeling that may have been the case. I personally prefer how the cover on the first edition has a S30 over an S130 too.

I'll keep my eyes on ebay and see if the original version pops up.

I'm not so interested in the Z31's and Z32's or even Z33's (bit modern for me), but I did see he had books on Porsche's and the Mazda RX7. I'll see how I go with the S30 books to start with.

I haven't found much on the early Mazda rotary's and their racing history which is something I'd really like to read about. I don't suppose you know of anything in English that's worth reading?
