i just brought this alarm system on ebay for $25(+$25 shiping) off ebay was woundering if

any1 has got somthing similar or if yall think this will work, heres the link

It will work but you really get what you pay for... There isn't much point in fitting a 20$ alarm to your zed as it's propably pretty easy to stop by giving it a good hard knock on the unit. I would honestly not install it and look at getting a Black Widow Central Locking kit and then a Mongoose alarm system. The main thing to make sure with your alarm is to not put it under the dash... It's sooo obvious! I plan on mounting my alarm unit under the passenger seat and then you can run cables under the main carpet (With the speaker cables) and around your car without any visible wires to cut or a unit to destroy...

 

Another thing i have found with cheap alarms is some insurers wont count a s***alarm as an "alarm" as they are too easy to stop. It is quite expensive at 220$ but in the long run... If someone breaks into the car, your current unit wont really deter someone who knows what they are doing, the Mongoose system cuts all power to the car, turns off the fuel pump and more.

the alarm normally sells for a bit more but your right in saying it looks cheap, i know i shouldn't cut corners but I'm just trying to keep cost down to as low as possible, after i spent like 500 getting my radiator repaired and found aluminum ones on line for 350 to 400 Ive been try to find the cheapest way around everything.

 

PS. are all cheap oils poop? when i say cheap i mean brands like shell

In terms of oil, my car uses penrite HPR 40

 

Also, the alarm may be good, but I couldn't honestly say that I would consider using it myself

 

I still think that your alarm is something you really shouldn't skimp on. If something happens to the car then you have to pay more insurance anyways so it's one of the only thing's that will save you lots of money and headaches down the track tbh.

 

The cheaper ones are also prone to having there alarms triggered when a loud car drives past

In terms of keeping the cost low, i know what you mean I have been trying but i know realize that it's just not possible to own a zed and at the same time, be cheap Everything (And i mean EVERYTHING) is expensive  But the car makes it up to you i must admit

First things first. Cheap alarms are well, cheap. They wont do anything, probably do not have blackened wires making it easier to trace and overall wont have the longevity, nor the safety of a more expensive item.

 

If it breaks you may not be able to turn on the car.

 

That being said, alarms are very easy to get past if you know the wiring loom you are working on. Also it isnt difficult to jerry up some wires to get a carby'd car going... I would purchase a club lock, and install a decent alarm as it will deter 99% of theives. The other 1% you cant do much about.

well ill differ about payin big $$ for alarm. its how u install it that makes it better.

 

$20 ill be a bit questionable but i will not consider paying more than 300 for one. some alarms can go over 1K . blah blah this and blah blah that.

 

alarm wont stop them gettin in the car. u just want to stop them from taking it. nobody these days cares if the siren is going off or not. even if they see it nobody will confront them for safety reasons.

 

paging alarms are good if u near your car so u can investigate quickly cause u the only one that will confront the bastards.

 

i think the key is how u install it. every alarm is the same personaly black wired alarms are waste of i can still get passed it in no time. Y? cause the dodo who install it.

 

anybody who installed an alarm more than once will keep doing the same thing over and over.  cause its the quickest and easiest also easiest to crack. and most commercial places or so called pros install it the same way.

 

mines is $250 paging alarm from ebay with most bells and whistles. unless the person was there when i installed the alarm i dont see that car moving without a flat bed truck.

 

Also good luck finding any of the alarm wires or alarm itself. . they wouldnt know where to start.

 

but sure wasnt a 1hr install job either.

 

so if u know a thing or two on installation on car stereos than alarm shouldnt be any harder so  install it yourself but install it smart.

 

dont look at the easiest way of hooking it up. crooks will look there first. make it difficult and as less obvious as possible. seperate the modules as far as possible. besides dont tell anyone how u installed and where u hiden the main module. install extra disabling features. u can add as many as u can be bothered or afford.. its easy.

 

they may get passed one but there are 3 or more other traps.

 

though if someone wants your car they will steal it regrdless what alarm u have in there. even the satelite tracking can be fooled easily if they can be bothered going through the trouble. and if u car is worth a bit they prob will.

 

we are still talking about a Z not a $1.2M Ferrari.

That's not a bad idear, I'm doing my doors atm

And then just install central locking I assume, then If the battery goes flat or something you can just get in from the rear hatch? Or do you suggest getting rid of the rear hatch lock aswell?

u can leave the rear hatch but im guessing they will try that next. so prob good idea too weld that u as well.

 

incase of a flat battery have a overide pull mechanism hiden somewhere around the car or under the car Another idea is have a hidden "+" terminal so u can piggy back the battery from outside and unlock the car. its pain but it will be bigger pain for person trying to break into it.

 

a small 12V bike battery will be sufficient to get ur alarm up and runing and unlocking the doors.

 

there is other more elaborate ways of making sure u have sufficient battery power for the central locking so u wont get into that situation.

 

when i get another wheels on the road the my 260Z going for a makeover. first on the list getting rid of all the locks. possible even door handles. extra smooooth look

 

like to see tha faces of the crooks when they try to stick their screw driver into non existng lock or even the handle to open the door. 

 

though unless u having bulletproof glass they still can break the glass.

 

make sure u have strategicaly placed one or two 140dB+ internal screamers. forget the external one is waste of time. they wont last more than few seconds in the car.

 

so a cheap alarm can be made very effective all u need is the brains module which is identical in design with most brands. they all use same inputs and have quite a few outputs which can be expanded even further.

A mate of mine had his VN commodore broken into. He had deadlocks so they couldn't open the doors, but the way they got the regular locks open was to cut the metal under the combined door handle & lock. I guess they used a screwdriver and hammer to chisel through the door metal.

 

I removed the locks from my TX-3 after it was broken into 2 twice in 2 weeks, and fitted an alarm. Never had a problem with it after that.

 

Deadlocks are a good idea if you want to keep the baddies out of your car.
