C.A.R. Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Guys, I'm going to be rebuilding a '71B' 260Z box soon, it'll be receiving new Bearings & probably 3 to 4 new steel Syncro rings (I CBF'd converting to brass s/rings). What I want to know is there anything else I can do while it's apart? This is what I'll be doing: General inspection for gear wear. New bearing kit. New steel Syncro rings. Double roll pinned selector forks. Duel rear mainshaft nuts. Anything else? Quote

260Coupe Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Check for coupling sleeve wear on both the ID (where it mates with the synchro ring) and the ouside ring groove where it mates with the selector fork, new rings are not much good if the ID is too worn to properly mate with the friction rings and worn OD can create noise. Also check for worn selector forks at the selector end (where the three forks join and meet with the striker rod), wear here will cause slop in the shift and a mushy feel. Quote
C.A.R. Posted June 26, 2009 Author Posted June 26, 2009 Thanks Alan - that gives me something to pinpoint... Quote
