DaveDimo Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 hello guys, i need a little advice, i have a standard 1974 L26 engine with the standard points dissy. i want to rip that out a put in a electronic ignition. can i use a 280zx L28 ignition or skyline anything?? dave Quote
Zeddophile Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Yes. 280zx one will go basically straight in, and I believe there is a skyline one that works as well, but I'm not sure on the details of that one. Search of this site would probably turn up the answer, as I think the skyline dizzy has been discussed before. Although there has been a couple of 280zx's getting wrecked on this site lately, so may be able to find one of those pretty easy. *EDIT* here you go, the dizzys that work - http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,3212.0.html Quote
scrumpy Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 If you are going to buy a second hand distributor make sure the main shaft is not worn with too much free play. Depending on the condition of your points distributor it may be more prudent to fit optical ignition to your existing distributor if it is in good running order. Conversion is less than a couple of hundres dollars and BRAND NEW; not not 25 years old like 280 electronic distributors. I got a Crane ignition fitted to mine at a place called Performance Ignition in Nunawading Victoria. Only costs a phone call to find out how much. Good Luck. Quote
towndrunkensmurf Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 I too have the crane conversion done to mine.. works well and at around $250 (running off memory) is, IMO, a better choice then a dirty old ZX dizzy but to each their own Quote
