Zedback Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Not bad for a first effort I guess, but was much harder fabricating the compound shape than I thought it would be Now after all that effort I'm not sure if I like it or not Before shot is last... Quote
Glen Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 i like it, but im not sure about the indicators. Quote
xa1973 Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 The concept looks good Mate A thought to enhance the look, if you recessed the indicators flush into the fill in panels, fibre glass graft the fill ins to meet the spoiler edges and also mould them to meet the inside edge of the light moulds creating a one piece look and put mesh in to the section where the indicators are I see youve also taken out the left to right exhaust pipe section, are you going to fill that in? Just a thought, I might give this a go myself Cheers Quote
Zedback Posted March 4, 2009 Author Posted March 4, 2009 ...I might give this a go myself Would love to see someone else have a go at this. I had an attempt with fiberglass and made a godawful mess, ended up shaping them roughly in aluminum and smoothing over with filler. I don't think the shape and fitment of the front spoiler I have helps either, it doesn't come up high enough to meet the front fender and requires the lower quarter panel to be in place, too many fiddly bits to juggle. I think you are both right about the indicators not being quite right. I don't think I'll do any more with it for a while. Trying to get into fixing up one of the 240z's instead, they've been sitting for too long. Quote
xa1973 Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 The easiest way to work with fibreglass for this type of work is with blocks of craft foam, you can carve and file the shapes you want for your moulds then lay on the matting and resin, saves you a lot of hassles especially for as you say the fiddly bits Cheers Quote
Zedback Posted March 4, 2009 Author Posted March 4, 2009 Where do you pick up the blocks of craft foam? I really should give it a proper go, a block of foam could be carved to fit the join lines nicely and to fit snugly against the headlight buckets. Would also as you suggested make moulding indicators in much easier. Thanks, Mike Quote
xa1973 Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Hi Mike KOOLFOAM in Slacks Creek 32091044 Sell Blocks in any size you want, from small to huge, good if you want to copy an existing part or make your own forms Alternatively check any large craft shop or polystyrene supplier / recycler on the net Cheers jeff Quote
stevofoxono Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 End up making any new versions with the indicators inbuilt? I'd be interested in buying a set Quote
