zzzzed Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Sorry this is nothing to do with my zed, but i need help non the less My 1993 4 cyl Mitsubishi triton died the other day for no apparent reason. I found that it has no spark, however it has 11.8 volts at the coil with the ignition on. I checked for contenuity across the coil polls and it seamed OK. When i checked for contenuity across the ignition module inside the distributor there was none, is this normal or is it no good. I am trying to pin point the problem so i dont buy parts i dont need. My knowledge on electronics is limited. I need my ute back on the road asap because my band has a gig next week and i need it to carry my equipment. (the 2 seater 260 just wont cut it here ) Its also my daily driver so the zed wont get trashed Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted February 8, 2009 Moderators Posted February 8, 2009 Check crank angle sensor/ign module. Are you getting injector pulses while its cranking? Do you hear them clicking away? Quote
zzzzed Posted February 8, 2009 Author Posted February 8, 2009 sorry i forgot to mention it is carby Quote
nizm0zed Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 what exactly do you mean by ignition module within the dizzy? do you mean the reluctor coil pickups? like in this pic? or is it a hall sensor? If its a reluctor, you can check to see if you have continuity through the pickups, there should be some resistance, as it is a coil of wire, but if there is no continuity, thats bad. The reluctor pickups generally go into a module, that cant be tested easily, unless you knwo what each pin is, and what you should normally read at each pin. the majority of the time, out of the 2 its the module that packs it it. If its a hall sensor, its the same, you can measure the sensor itself to see if its broken. It should have a 5v reverence on one of the three wires, ground on the other, and a changing output signal on the 3rd. you really need proper equipment to test it. But you say your triton is a carbie model? so its unlikely it'll have a hall sensor, usually used for EFI setups. Quote
zzzzed Posted February 21, 2009 Author Posted February 21, 2009 Thanks i have fixed this problem now it was the what you say is the reluctor. I am not saying your wrong, but when i ordered a new one it came in a box marked ignition module. Also the electrician looked it up in the parts book under ignition module, so either they have two names ore Mitsubishi are dum @#$#. Can some one clarify this for me thanks Quote
nizm0zed Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 generally they are considered the same thing. in a lot of cases, you cant order just the reluctor pickup, or the module, it comes in one package, hence the name "ignition module" Quote
zzzzed Posted February 22, 2009 Author Posted February 22, 2009 well there you go well i did the continuity test on the reluctor/module and it had no Resistance, so i figured it would be that. I had the auto electrician check it any way before i ordered a new one at a hefty $150 Thats nearly what the ute is worth lol Quote
